They did some war games with the F-35 vs F-15s (and maybe some F-16s). The F-35s got smoked, so they kept changing the rules of engagement until the F-35s eeked out of victory.

There are plans to put the F-22 back into production after the clusterfuck of the F-35 is played out. They will probably call it an F-22A variant as some new electronics and cockpit elements are in the works.

I saw one of these crash. Pilot stalled the aircraft and it fell to earth.
Canada built a jet once. Things were going just fine until the government under PM John Diefenbaker abruptly stopped production, ended the project, and ordered all existing planes and prototypes destroyed. It is possible, rumored, maybe, that one of the prototypes was squirreled away and saved. If it exists it's still hidden somewhere. The cancellation put Avro out of business.
Interesting story to read about. It remains a controversial subject in Canadian air force history to this day.

Arvo was buttfucked by both British Aerospace and Lockheed. It was classic lobbying where the Crown and Americans did not want Canada to build their own military equipment for fear they could build up squadrons to challenge both American and British air superiority. Both the CIA and MI-6 got what they wanted, Canada as a military arms consumer and not manufacturer.
A similar thing happened in Ireland with both Shamrock and DeLorean. Both were domestic Irish car manufacturer where the British Crowd was afraid they could convert the automotive assembly line into an armored car assembly line and retake northern Ireland.
That's why John DeLorean was set up in that fake cocaine candle sting. John was never prosecuted but MI-5 got what they wanted. The plant was shut down. To make the DeLorean look even more stupid, they handed it over to a jew in Hollywood to trash the car in a series of time travel science fiction movies where the public would never take the care seriously anymore.
this thing is from the fucking 60s, looks so goddamn modern though

You will see a lot more F-22s built in the next few years. It is the air superiority fighter no one getting except American forces. If anything, the F-35 was intentionally fucked up to keep American air superiority. The Thunderbirds are supposedly going to fly F-22s in a few years.

That's a little too much power for air shows, but if they add thrust vectoring stunts, I'm all for it.
>>740377221
That was a fucking awesome design decades ahead of its time. Discovery channel did a whole show about it proving the design could have absorbed and evated the Chain Home radar system in the southern UK.
Issue is the Reich ran out of time and money. Both prototypes were moved to the USA and many claim the design was the source for the YB-49 and the B-2.
Then there was the Horten H.XVIII "America Bomber" that never got off the drawing board. The designs were reviewed and if the Nazi's had to more years, they could have built this and bombed the eastern US seaboard.

>That's a little too much power for air shows, but if they add thrust vectoring stunts, I'm all for it.
One of the things they want to do for the crowd is a nap of the earth or at least ten to twenty feet above the runway, vertical thrush suspended demo. The talk would be down to the runway, the nose slightly tilted forward from vertical, the F-22 would "dance" along the runway showing how much vectored thrust power these babies have and then a huge "rocket launch" at the far end of the runway so the wake does not knock the crowd down. This has already been done on closed demos.

Northrop N-1M
Flying wing
The Northrop N-1M, also known by the nickname "Jeep", was an American experimental aircraft used in the development of the flying wing concept by Northrop Aircraft during the 1940s. Wikipedia
Top speed: 200 mph
Range: 300 mi
Wingspan: 39′ 0″
Length: 17.92′
Engine type: Lycoming O-145
First flight: July 3, 1940
Manufacturer: Northrop Corporation
>>740378326
True. However, the N-1M did not have the radar absorbing properties of the Horton.
>>740378326
Jack Northrop was working on this design however the Horten brothers had been experimenting with flying wings since the 20's
>>740378326
holy shit a flying wing with props looks insane
>>740378482
Also Jack Northrop was fond of a line Steve Jobs used from him and Howard Hughes, "Good artists create, great artists steal." Flying wings goes back to the origins of flight. Even the Wright Brothers had flying wing designs in the works.

From what I recall, they destroyed the tooling and programs upon the end of the F-22
http://www.military.com/daily-news/2017/06/21/the-f22-fighter-jet-restart-dead-study.html
According to a 2010 RAND study, to restart the F-22 production line to build 75 more of the jets would cost about $20 billion in inflation-adjusted dollars.
To build a new Raptor -- not a 1990s version -- "you're not building the same airplane you were building before, and it becomes a much more expensive proposition," a defense analyst in Washington, D.C. told Military.com on background on Thursday.
>>740369681
those are the ones that can hit 30000m?
>>740379151
What they should have done would have been to keep building the airframes, minus the engines and avionics and then stored them mothballed for future use.

Lockheed looked into building the F-22 again, I presume when Trump proposed shelving the F-35 and buying more (Boeing) F/A-18. That's what the original poster speculated on, but its way too expensive. Plus the article goes on that they probably wouldn't have just made more of F-22's they would have added every job in the world for a totally different plane altogether .
This is from a little over a month and a half ago:

you have no idea what you're talking about. The US Airforce sure as hell isnt going to risk one of their 187 Raptors pulling some risky ass stunt at a public airshow.. the production line has been shutdown and it will not be restarted. There will be no more f22's and the last thing they will do is give the thunderbirds their most technologically advanced marvel as toys.

>>740379848
there is an interesting back story to the xb70, The Soviets were so concerned about it they rushed to produce the Mig-25 and made speed the top priority, as they figured they would need to catch the Mach 3 XB-70 (which never was more than a technology demonstrator), the resultant Mig-25 did become a Mach 3 plane but at a major performance expense and thus was almost useless as a dogfighter.

You may want to check the avionics suite on the F-35 before you pass judgement. It gives the F-35 pilot incredible situational awareness. If the F-35 actually ever enters a close range dogfight it will be due to extreme pilot error
