Pemdas is wrong. I have no idea why people teach kids that you should do multiplication before division. You should always do division before multiplication.

The problem is limited by its linearity in writing and the use of the obelus. If we had two lines and the division bar was aligned with the expression in the parentheses, then it would indeed be nine. However, is the 2 and the expression are beneath the division bar, then it would be one. If the image had been properly constructed in, say, LaTeX, then this would be simple to solve.
