And there are downsides to being rich, though they seem more than worth it from an outside perspective, they become much more problematic when it is your normal everyday life.

Also, being famous ultimately has greater downsides than just being rich. I would personally hate to be famous either way, having a bunch of people know my name and feel like I'm constantly being watched. I dunno why this guy killed himself in particular, but there's plenty of shit that leads to depression for wealthy celebrities that they would never anticipate. Not to mention that many of them get there because they're so driven by a need for attention and appreciation, that how people respond to them has a massive impact on their mental state. So one can feel a bit trapped because to stay in good graces they can't just do whatever they want, and their personalities make it hard for them to just not give a shit.

And if you're born rich, all the benefits of wealth will mean absolutely nothing to you, so the problems associated with being rich and famous have no apparent silver lining from their perspective. So to me it's not surprising that they often have emotional issues.

I think the happiest place is when you have enough money to be able to pay your bills with some left over for small luxuries, and also plenty to be able to deal with sudden disasters without them financially crippling you. Any more than that and it just becomes a more and more mentally unhealthy lifestyle.
