Women's sports are regularly and sytematically promoted less than men's sports (unless they're sexy about it, like volleyball of course). There's consistently social assumptions such as 'women are bad at maths' and the like which dont actually bear out - unless you say it often enough that people doubt themselves.
Roles in movies or tv shows for older women are far rarer than those for men - when you hit a certain age in hollywood, if youre a woman, you're probably done. A black James Bond would be fine, like honestly, don't be so scared guys, what the hell would change. James Bond has never really addressed James being a white dude in any thematic sense. It's about adventure and excitement and being awesome.
Idris Elba is the most James Bond-like person in film I can think of right now. Seriously, watch any interview with him, his a fucking living Rolex commercial.

Female James on the other hand is just strange... James has always been aware of being an old-school conservative womanizing dick head, and that's such a large part of his character that taking that part out would be jarring. But keep in mind this is only jarring if they try to make a "female version" of James. They need to make an entirely new character from scratch to land this one. And trust me, they are very aware of this... and if they aren't, everyone is going to hate it.
I imagine that one of the reasons people want to change some characters from male lead to female lead (Star Wars, etc) is because these movies are already giant vehicles with infinite funding, and starting all over with a new franchise and a new interesting female lead is practically impossible in Hollywood. These big budget films have an opportunity to sort of kick-start female leads with an enormous amount of good will and cash before they even start production. I don't really agree that this is the way to do it, but I'm willing to see where it goes.

Oh, and as for female Doctor - come on, that's awesome. It plays right into The Doctor's character (and the show as a whole) as an unpredictable and mystical and off-putting entity. Having female Doctor go off on some strange alien bi-curious future-sex adventures is Doctor Who gold. Everything doesn't have to be about that, but you know what I'm saying.

It's about letting people get whatever education interests them and making sure no one is rejected based on superficial traits, which we have laws to prevent.
