Whats wrong with that? When literally half the country doesnt make enough tto be taxed because they are dumb or lazy, that will happen.
>>
Because poor people can't plan ahead. They will spend more in frivolities than "rich people"

Also the poverty level here includes iPhones cable TV and eating out daily. Candy soda cigarettes beer. Living like a god damn king in any other time period.
>>
The wealth gap has always exist it is just easier to get wealth higher with modern corporations. Not much you can do money has always equaled power
>>
>>739091086

>>739090825
Wealth inequality is by definition not a problem. The creation of wealth is what makes everyone better off. In the U.S. the wealthiest people gain wealth by creating products and services everyone demands. IE. Apple invents an iphone, and we're all better off because of it. Wealth comes from producing something someone else wants. Therefore, those who produce very little are not wealthy, those who produce a lot, and/ or provide capital to those who produce a lot become wealthy. This is the most productive and effective way to run a society as even the worse off parties (ie. "the poor") have cars, cable television, access to food, water, shelter, entertainment, etc.
>>
>>739091086
this,

those poor people might only have 7% of the wealth but individually that is a lot compared to a lot of countries
>>
>>739090825
It happened because trump got elected.
He also caused the holocaust

When the people who write the laws are all bought and paid for by the rich, what the fuck did you think was going to happen?
>>

Wait, rich people have more money than poor people? Shocked, shocked I am to learn of this!
>>
>>739090825
our great grandparents were taught that socialism is a cancer, and every generation since in tow.
Capitalism however in their day worked well when the general populous upheld socialist beliefs and efforts ("don't steal THAAAT much money from the church charity fund, Charlie!")("Oh let's just give it away to charity Donald the war is tough on everybody.").
Fucking ironic, isn't it?
>>

The concentration of wealth is actually becoming less concentrated at the top over time. The Dow (top 30 companies excluding some financial institutions) was 36% of the wealth in the 70's. Now it's much less.
>>
>>739091371
People are making different choices than those before them. They're not producing or investing in those who are productive as those before them have done. (At least, not nearly as much of them as before).
>>
Hey, guys, listen! What if -- listen -- what if we got a lot more poor people, so many that they wound up having most of the money! And maybe, no listen, maybe we could get all the rich people to leave the country, so the rich would have NONE of our wealth!

I mean, that solves all the problems in that chart, right?

Since the 1800's, people have been saying, we're wealthy enough to just redistribute all of the wealth and solve all of our problems. Every society that has attempted to do this has been worse off for doing so. Encouraging productivity is the only way to improve society for everyone.

That attitude is precisely why this country is fucked

The more money you give freely to the poor, the less money is worth, the more you bridge the divide between the rich and the poor, the more you make it harder for intelligent people who want to start a business to be successful, which leads to poor competition, which leads to lower quality products. Which leads to more undesireable living environments.

>>739090825

OP asks the important question. Too many people point to these charts and scream, "PROBLEM!"

Ask yourself what you actually know about this situation.

1. What economic/legislative/social forces created this?
2. Who are the people on the top? Business owners? Private individuals? Wealthy investors? Statesmen and political figures? Who has the dough, and why?

Most people cannot answer those first two questions. As such, they have no right to offer answers to the third question:

3. How do we change it?
>>
>>739090825
Money is a scam of sorts. It's not a scam in the sense as buying an xbox at ebay and getting a cardboard box with X on it, but it is a scam.
The purpose of this scam is to extract free labour. It's not that terrible, we all love having roads, a polices, military, and so on, but it is a scam. It's for the smart to exploit the stupid for good and all the other things. That's the government side of the story. Money is means to get the people do things for the government, hence turning scribbles on a paper into actions.

Then there's the private side of the story; after reaching a certain point in being wealthy the wealth itself becomes self-sustaining. But this is relative, you can only spend a percentage of what your wealth generates and this depends on the local economy. You don't need to be a wage slave if you don't want to. Simply move to a country where the spendable percentage of your wealth is enough for you to live off it.

Or start a business and get other people work harder for whatever you provide. If you're smart you'll make plenty money and turn that money into power which you use to get more money.

There's actually a lot of work on the subject, and it's why investors have become more critical of the Dow over time. S&P 500 index has become a better indicator of overall market trends. This is proven false.
Poor people do not have the disposable income to save up in the first place.

When they put rich people on poor budgets, they ALWAYS fail.

There's also the time factor you're ignoring.
>iphones
Not an option.
>Cable TV
Shrinking in use as we fucking speak.
>Eating out daily
Commonly a result of working two "part time" jobs that are one or two hours short of being full time, kept that way on purpose to avoid giving you benefits
And because you can't get benefits you have to go and pay out of pocket for most of your medical, dental, optical, etc.
And because you work so much, you don't have the time or energy to spend 20 minutes chopping vegetables and searing some chicken and then throwing it all together in a lasagna or some shit that takes another hour to cook.
Maybe on your day off you manage that, but not 7 days a fuckin week.

Again, THEY HAVE DONE STUDIES ON WHY POOR PEOPLE ARE POOR AND "FRIVOLOUS SPENDING" IS NOT ON THE LIST.

Wages have GONE DOWN against inflation since the 70s while the cost of living has SKYROCKETED.

THAT IS WHY POOR PEOPLE ARE POOR. PERIOD. Problem solved. Mystery over. CEO pay has gone up 400% adjusted for inflation while median employee pay has gone down like 5%.

-5% vs +400%
READ THAT AGAIN.
Keep reading that until it sinks in.

The vast, vast majority of all productivity gains in our economy have been funneled to the executive corporate and political level since the 1970s.

That's literally the sum of the issue. Companies got greedy. Period.

Another important thing to clarify for people is who are the people on the bottom. Most see that and think 80% = only poor people on welfare and minimum wage career fast food employees.

That 80% also includes Doctors/lawyers, throw in the next 15% and you have just about everyone who works for a living. Everything above that is someone who's main source of income is owning things, rather than any work they do themselves.

That would be fine now if the majority of that top group were individuals who built up those things they now own themselves, but the majority of them inherited it. That's the problem.

This is hilariously wrong.
The wealthiest people get STARTED creating products and services.
The vast majority of the rich sustain and grow their wealth beyond that point with investments.

Furthermore, production is controlled exclusively by the rich. You cannot brainstorm a new genius idea and start production anymore without selling your idea out to someone who's already rich who has the infrastructure and connections to exploit your idea. You end up, at best, with a 50% cut. Best case scenario.

The internet is a counter example, because it's currently cheap to rent server space, so you can launch a new website overnight and make it big without needing investors, but net neutrality being stolen away may well put an end to that as well.

By the way, "How poor can you be if you have a television and a car with 300k miles that breaks down every month?" is absurd. The statistics verify that poverty is relative.

The name for what sin you just committed is the "Fallacy of Relative Privation."

If we've been cutting taxes at the top, then why does 68% of all income tax come from the top 5% of the earning population?

In the state of California, where I live, the top 1% of earners pay 49% of all income taxes.

What was why in 2008 when the market began to crash California found itself with a gigantic deficit, because those people who they depend on most for taxes suddenly didn't make enough money to pay them.

Most economists will tell you that it's a very unbalanced and potentially dangerous system to base your tax expectations on a small group

I'm an engineer and even with 10,000 job openings it's getting competitive out here. As more people take this advice and go the trade route, the advice becomes worth less and less.

Further, as an engineer, let me tell you that automation is going to murder trade jobs.

As a uni intern I worked for a company that developed vibrational trench diggers. Meaning that rather than digging trenches the old way to lay cable, the machine vibrated a giant metal fin rapidly into the soil while feeding the wire or tubing they wanted buried down through the loose dirt to the depth required.

I personally worked on the first self-piloted prototype. It could lay dozens of yards of cable with no human input while avoiding construction markers and humans and equipment in its path.

Shit's about to explode. Trucking is the biggest industry in the US and self-driving trucks will be mainstream by 2030.

The solution is literally just that. Tax the fuck out of the megarich. They're stealing from the public and moving the money overseas for savings. So fuck them. Tax their current incomes and give the middle and lower class huge tax cuts.

A dollar in the hands of the bottom 80% of society is worth 4-5 in the economy. In the hands of the rich it's worth just $1. In the hands of the mega-rich it's only worth like $0.8 dollars.

I've created products and tried to get them to market. You can't get someone to let you use their distribution without letting them in on a big chunk of your product.

I designed a car windshield screen that charged an emergency battery for your car. It wasn't very efficient, and I never got it powerful enough to jump start a dead car battery, but it could keep a phone alive for a while or run an emergency radio.

It's about where the government's money is coming from.

https://www.mercatus.org/publication/breakdown-federal-personal-income-taxes

Examine the chart. Altogether, of earners 5% pay nearly 60% of income taxes. The top 50% of the population pays 97%.

And of that, the federal government pays 40% of it's total budget into entitlements (pensions, healthcare, welfare, food stamps, etc).

The rich are subsidizing the poor for too long. I'm not saying the system is perfect, I'd like to see it change.

If you're only 19 you can fuck off while the adults are talking.
You don't know anything about the real world.
You don't even know simplicity.
I grew up in the rural midwest. When I was 19 I lived in a cabin on a wooded lake in Arkansas without power. I fished every day to feed my family, and bow hunted all winter.
I only made it to college to become an engineer because I had a 33 ACT and won the only full ride scholarship available in my town.

Every other peer, every other hard-working, studious teenager had to go to a shitty trade job or work their daddy's farm or become a truck driver.

So much for the simple life. So much for trade jobs. So much for just saving up money, right?

Most of you contrarian fucks who glorify libertarianism has no idea what true freedom is like.

The freedom to die of a stomach virus because your whole family is sick and you don't have a working car between the three of you and there's a foot of snow on the ground keeping you from stumbling the 8 miles to the nearest telephone to call the single local sheriff deputy your town has to drive you to the nearest hospital, which is an hour away.

That's how my cousin died. We were best friends growing up. He didn't make it out of highschool because he shit and puked his brains out into a bucket while his family was snowed into their house with a severe stomach bug.

But they were free! Yup! Our grandparents moved out to the sticks specifically to get away from taxes and big government and by golly it worked! No more oppressive state stealing their income! Now they just had to invent jobs in rural Arkansas and put up with dirt roads and no ambulances and only one cop to call for help within a 20 mile radius.

You kids don't know what the fuck life is like without a safety net. You feel confident right now but next time you're sick or injured you'll be thanking god for taxes.

>implying that they pay that tax rate after abusing loopholes.

These concepts are not related. The government insured bad loans and large financial institutions took advantage of this system. This has more to do with government intervention. Think about this way. In a "free market" you would never loan money to someone who wasn't going to pay it back. Some other force had to intervene to cause that to happen.

Not sure what you mean. This from Wikipedia:

(Taxes which apply to estates or to inheritance in the United States trace back to the 18th century. According to the IRS, a temporary stamp tax in 1797 applied a tax of varying size depending on the size of the bequest, ranging from 25 cents for a bequest between $50–$100, to 1 dollar for each $500. The tax was repealed in 1802. In the 19th century, the Revenue Act of 1862 and the War Revenue Act of 1898 also imposed rates, but were each repealed shortly thereafter. The modern estate tax was enacted in 1916.[42][43]

The modern estate tax was temporarily phased out and repealed by tax legislation in 2001. This legislation gradually dropped the rates until they were eliminated in 2010. However, the law did not make these changes permanent and the estate tax returned in 2011.[44]

"But late in 2010, before that clause took effect, Congress passed superseding legislation that imposed a 35 percent tax in 2011 and 2012 on estate in excess of $5 million. Like the 2001 legislation, the 2010 legislation had a sunset clause so that in 2013 the estate tax would return to its 2001 level. But then on New Year's Day 2013, Congress made permanent an estate tax on estates in excess of $5 million at a rate of 40 percent."[45])

According to this, estate taxes have been around for a long time, but have NEVER been as high as what Hillary suggested they should be. The only types of government that believe in heavy taxation of estates are the socialist and communist systems.

There were limits on the amounts you could give while still alive. In the end it was considerably difficult to pass on an entire economic empire to one's offspring.

Another important thing to consider about the estate tax, is that it only applied amounts large enough the average person would never have to worry about it in the first place. You could inherit a mom&pop business / house etc with no problem, but passing on something the size of Walmart would be a no-go.

Whether you like globalism or not, it's here to stay. It's the rules everyone else plays by, so we are no longer capable of just opting out of it. It would be suicide for us as a nation, for any nation, to not pursue it.

Being anti-globalist is like being anti-capitalist.
Great! But now what? The whole world is a market. How are you going to participate if you refuse to play with everyone else?
There is no non-capitalist global economy for you to utilize. It's that, or nothing.

You're not living. You're just chasing the dragon you'll never catch. Tell me, when will you start to enjoy the money you've worked so hard for. Stop being a cheap ass

I try to tell people and they call me a socialist.
I'm like, no, wealthy people tend to be greedy that's all...
"SOCIALISTE!"
we are all doomed to an anti-economy
>>
>>739093956
That's fucking idiotic.
If someone would know that their children wouldn't get their money after they would have gone off this world, they would go into spending spree, throwing money into throats of hookers, getting wasted and coked up.
Why not treat yourself, when you cannot help your own children?

As apposed to liberal tax and spend...quit drinking the kool aid dumbass....

Quit finding a big shadow to blame and get out there and work for your wealth.
Get rich schemes are for only dumb as people slinging drugs or other pyramid or illegal shit.

Communism is also shit.

Both capitalism and communism have defects, and people thinking that one is better than the other are comparing shit to rotten food.
>>
I thought it was a lot worse than that tbh.

The latest figure I've seen are like almost twice as bad

Because a greater and greater percentage of the population are retards that contribute nothing to society and use more in taxes than they pay in to the system. If you killed the bottom 50% of the US population, crime would go down, GDP would increase, tax expenditure would massively drop, and society and technology would advance far more rapidly without having to drag the anchor behind of all the niggers and spics that are flooding in that lack the intelligence, drive, and ambition to even break even on supporting their own large families (often our of wedlock, especially among the blacks).

We need a genocide of the workers because we don't need any. We should all get rich from owning things.

Most workers find their raisons d'être originate in their genitals, their stomachs, or the mind demons that haunt their existence. Workers will sell anything, ANYTHING, to meet the above needs.

Keep being horrible people. The sex slavers always need more runaways.

This is the natural course of human history. Wealth has ever flown from the peasantry to the nobility. As it was, so it shall be.

I don't know and I don't care, I'm here to make my own money, save up my own money and spend my own money how I please. If need be I will survive on top spaghetti and red sauce for years to have enough money to do what I need to do.

We're all responsible for our own actions even if we're not responsible for our own upbringing.
