For all we know, the character of the doctor still prefers woman because that's what he was used to in his past lifes.

Capaldi ran this show into the ground, he's the worst thing that ever happened to Doctor Who. He's not just an actor on the show, he inserts himself into decision making. They set this switch up from the beginning of Capaldi's tenure by having the Master turn tranny, and there's good odds that Capaldi demanded this or at least steered the show this way, like a lot of the other awful shit from the last few years. I couldn't even watch the last two seasons, and the last two Christmas specials looked like complete train wrecks.
