So as far as anyone knows, I don't drink, and it's better for liver and wallet and criminal record that I don't anyway. Your friend might not be lying. The nice thing about meads is, they start out on a most basic level as a really excellent and simple brew. You can literally dump honey into a bucket, leave it outside in the rain next to a field, and come back and the yeast blown off the field will get that shit going, and honestly, it'll be pretty fuckin great. ...which is likely how alchoholic beverages were first discovered. You can put a shitload of time and additives and monkey around with the recipe, but it's hard to fuck up. The golden rule with mead is, if you take it out, it'll be good, but you're not thrilled with it or want to do something more with it, just put it back in for another go, and wait, and it'll be even better. If your friend saw a tapestry with hardly any detail on it, he could probably copy it and deduce his own details in his own mind, and whatever he came up with is going to be really fucking good.

The downfall of mead is, variation in the flavor of each of the ingredients is wide, and very apparent in the final product, and controlling those few variables is nearly impossible. So it's not something you can really market, cause no two batches will taste the same and all your customers will be like "wtf did they do" every bottle.
