Actually if you do it right nothing gets damaged. You still have the same amount of wear and tear on the brass synchronizers just less wear on the clutch pressure plate and flywheel. I've driven on I-95 plenty of times, even by Boston. The highway is completely fine; traffic is the problem. We were able to travel at 60 mph even during rush hour in Boston, which is pretty damn impressive if you ask me. But yes, its construction has been a massive clusterfuck since the beginning, and yes, the interchanges are confusing as all hell. I drive a mid 2000's VW Jetta, so I'd call it close enough. Gearbox is shit, even the tiptronic is somewhat shit because lol low rpm automatic downshift, but it's nice as a gear hold/select.
