My 18th Century farmhouse has a hypocaust (underfloor / wall heating invented by the Romans)

So snug and cosy in the winter. Still warm from the night before when you come down for breakfast in the evening.

They are cheaper than traditional units and are energy efficient. You're not going to want to put one in every room but they are good for big areas or additions/basements where you don't have an extra zone.
