Actually in most jurisdictions, rabbits are considered "pets" and less heavily regulated than chickens.

Rabbits are very easy to care for and have low incidence rates of disease. There's a few vaccines for them, but a clean raising enviroment and regular culling and a good diverse breeding program will keep that stuff at bay as is.

Oh, I thought walleye. Rabbits are a pain, but snares do help. So does a 20 gage. We both got confused I guess. Snaring fish is a fucking pain though, and it's rare to actually see a walleye, let alone actually snare it. The teeth makes it easy for them to cut your line.

Yes. We have a huge regulation on deer, and the government monitoring it. I agree with predators you have to be careful. Especially apex ones. Every healthy population (or the most healthy) eats five things:
Vegetables, some grain, nuts, seeds and lentils. (And derivatives.) And maybe some fruit.
The rest is pretty much optional.

Eat that stuff with variety and throw in some protein of your choice now and again.

Yeah. It's worth it. its a fantastic way to get lots of nutrients bioavailable for your chickens and filters it.

Sometimes the chickens can ahold of something in your refuse that sets off the falvor of their eggs for a while. We cook with heavy garlic and if the chickens get ahold of it the eggs just taste weird for a few days.

If you are close with your neighbors see if you can get their refuse too.

I toss a dozen of so larvae a day into the garden, and the rest go to my chickens, and when the bin gets full I empty it out into my garden beds directly. They compost it and make it non-hot very fast.

My dogs only eat the rabbit gizzards and liver and heart. everything else, and the excess from the rabbit harvest goes into the BSF as well.

Also, some predators over populate. There is no hunting season on coyotes where I live. They're so densely populated and killing the other population, at one point if you brought a skin in there was a $50 reward.

I've been eye-fucking this 1m3 box system for potatoes, which looks like it has an extremely high yield for very little space. (You open at the bottom and harvest from below.
Also I'm gonna be wanting to get some corn going. Not sure if I can make it actually viable, but I just love me some sweet, freshly picked corn cobs.

Ah. I don't hunt them, only interested in trying the meat. Some sweet fresh corn is the best. Especially on a grill. A 10 by 30 foot space is completely viable with some supplements from the food store if you plant right. Plants run in seasons after all. God speed anon. If you wanna be fully self reliable id recommend getting some property near a stream with lots of room for farming. Fishing, hunting, and farming. I've often had this thought but never did it. If you live in America, if it's on your property, by law its yours.

Exactly. Black soldier flies aren't really that popular around here. They've got other natural competitors for the same food source that compete very well. By spreading the larvae in the garden I'm putting continual pressure on the competitors.

My chicken run is covered in vining peas and beans, and loofa. tomatoes cukes, radishes, carrots, celery, all sorts of squash, herbs and a shit load of lettuce on a continous flow raft system which filters the water from my swimming pool turned into fishery. Yeah, but usually that is a sign that something else is going wrong. Like a competing predator being gone or waste not being handled properly. Could be many things. And I understand them being careful with hunting rights. We have a track record of completely wiping out predators in very short amounts of time, after all...

Or it could be the seasons being weird. Which they have been almost everywhere lately. Our winters have been mild as fuck, which elates everyone else, but fills me with dread, as I know what that means for spring and summer. But apart from the insects, it fucks with the flora also, since the plants don't sleep/die properly during winter, which weakens them come spring/summer.
Reports of extreme storms and higher sea levels are bad and stuff. But the way my local nature is suffering, quite literally just hits closer to home...

It's hardly worth it. it's a heavy feeder and doesn't really give you much yeild for the effort. However if you want to grow it just for the sake of growing it then go right ahead. Just m ake sure the soil is rich and well covered. Make sure you companion plant as well.

As for potatos. Don't. Just don't even bother. They aren't worth it in even the least bit considering the effort. I grew them for 7 years and they just don't perform for the space required. Especially considering you can get a 5lb bag on sale for 99 cents on sale.

Kangaroo tastes like a light but briney version of veal. Kangaroo is routinely sold here in every major supermarket; comes packaged as sausages, diced, burgers patties, mince, and fillets. It's lean so it's good slow cooked or reverse seared, needs spices or sauce to counter the wierd-salty taste .

We get crocodile too sometimes, tastes mostly like chicken, but in the mouth the texture is slimy and flakes apart exactly like fish.
