Hey /b/, need atleast some decent advice on what do, I currently have $36k in my bank via financial compensation from a car wreck. What's the best way to use this money? I'm 18, I've been thinking on throwing down $7k-$10k on my first car, spend some on a 2 year tuition, invest into stocks. Are there smarter ways to use this money? What would you do?
>>
You should invest in google

>>
>>737300521
How'd you get that much money? I was just in a wreck that was 100% not my fault, got injured and totaled the car as well. The lady that hit me died and even though it wasn't my fault it's got me all fucked up.

Depends on when you need the money.
If you have longer timehorizont than 2 years and more than 4.000$ you should invest if you can handle the risk.
Buy EFT's like Spider. Its the cheapest way of investment and you get good avg yield.
If you want better yield, its gonna cost you and you should really spend time on looking into the firms.

>>
>>737300521
before you invest in stocks, do research. like a lot of research. read intelligent investor, one up on wall street, and a few others before even considering investing into the stock market.

If it were me, i'd spend about 5-7k on a used but reliable car, put about 2k into a savings account, and put the rest into the stock market.
>>
stocks are literally the worst thing you can do.

you can buy foreclosed homes and seized assets from your county courthouse/constable office auction.

I bought a house appraised for 80k with 20k cash and flipped it.

don't be a dumbfuck. research property values and anything else to do with the location like schools, crime rate, convenience/commercial, access etc
>>
>>737300521
Listen to me motherfucker. And listen good. INVEST IN REAL ESTATE fuck stocks. Unless you plane on reading and watching business insider 24/7 to make smart choices on the market you should just invest in real estate. Buy a fixer upper. Fix what you can with help from friends and family. Pay for what you can't fix. Rent it out to people. Eventually sell it once you have made back the monkey you spent on buying and fixing it.

>>737300521
Buy an investment property and rent it out. Do a bit of research, but assuming you live in USA, it is easy to become rich. 35k is enough to put down payment on a duoplex-triplex. Live in one, rent the other two. Take some of that money and buy a cheap car off of craigslist.

I wish I had 35k to invest when I was starting out. Hell, wish I had 10k. Check out Biggerpockets.com, lots of good info there. That 35k will be plenty enough seed money for you to retire at the age of 45.

OR spend it on hookers and blow. Up to you.

Invest in cryptocurrencies.
Create an account on Coinbase, buy some Ethereum (ETH) or Bitcoins (BTC) and send them to a Bittrex account.
Visit /biz/ to learn how to diversify your crypto assets ( I recommend ARK DGB GNT DCR BAY, well established projects with huge potential gains)

The only kicker is that you will probably (if you are like the rest of the neckbeard basement dwellers on 4chan) need to improve your credit. Stick the money in a savings account till you get that all sorted, it will take a while.

Get a hard credit check pulled, then start working off the debt. It may take a year to get your credit score up, depending on how much you have against you, but don't touch the 35k if you can help it. Live cheap and pay with your earnings.

Youtube has A LOT of channels with very good real estate advise.

There's good advice here (real estate, IRA), risky advice here (gold, crypto), but whatever the fuck you do, DO NOT BUY STOCKS right now. They have 100% headwind right now.

If you're not into managing stuff yourself and want a low risk trade, commodities specifically ag would be your best bet. Sov Bonds used to be that, but anything from a reliable country yields below real and has for the better part of a decade.

Depending on your credit worthiness you can finance a car cheaper than you can finance a student loan. Meaning, finance the car, pay for the schooling. Financing the car, and making the payments will also help build credit worthiness whcih will help reduce the cost of future credit. Looking at the pay differential between those witha high school diploma vs. those with a colleg degree makes it clear that the smartest investment is in your education. Over a lifetime that can mean millions of dollars for even a mid-level professional.

Buy bitcoins, and then buy ANS, ETH, but always have BTC make up the majority of your investment. China's bank recently announced one of their main priorities int to hop into the cryptomarket, while Russia wants to be the first country with a national cryptocoin.
This and other factors are making cryptocurrencies rise in value.

I'd also add that it's a good idea to still take out loans for the things you want to buy instead of just paying straight up cash. Paying the loans builds your credit, and since you have the money anyway, you won't even have to worry about it.

Trying to figure out clever ways to spend money is probably one of the biggest mistakes people make when they get it. Don't invest. You probably don't know what you're doing anyway and will lose most of your money.

Also, don't tell anyone you just got a bunch of money. People are cunts and will come up with a lot of shitty ways to get money from you.

Bonds not share.
I would say get into mtg and ygo. If you buy a booster box for Magic and keep it seeled for about 5 years it can go from £80-£200 sometimes even higher.
I've not personally done that because I dont have the space or the money.
I buy boxes and especially sleeves and sell them in person. Booster packs turns me about £60 to £100. Sleeves turn £10 into £30. Fidget spinners were getting £60 from £20 but thats died down now.

Fucking Americans... My car cost me £600, the back box fell off once but that only cost £100 to fix..

You lose a little money, but building your credit is worth it in the long run. Considering he doesn't have THAT much money, whatever he wants to do to make more might require other loans.

>back box fell off
Why do you have a box on the back of your car?
>>
>>737309488
Considering the british are a backwards people with an oafish grasp of english, I interpret that to mean that his hood ornament fell off.

Get an education. And buy a cheap car. As long as it runs reliably, everything else is a waste. And get some good clothes. A decent suit and some little more expensive business-casual attire. Basically gentleman it up. Good for your education and job hunt. Failing that, hookers and blow are a close second.

What's a hood ornament?? Do you mean the badge??

>>737307763
Lol thanks I know it's good advice because I didn't fucking do it when I was younger. Hindsight is always 20/20

I dont know, invest in education and property maybe, i dont know where you live. Maybe buy a little nice flat, live there until you earn decently and after that rent it out for secure monthly cash.

After searching the internet I can give you a confident maybe

As a young guy who just bought his first house and had that same kind of money to work with I can tell you it really depends on where you live and what your job is.

Renting vs owning is largely decided by your local market. For me owning a house is almost half the price of renting. My mortgage with taxes included in escrow is $780/month while a similar house costs about $1200/month to rent. I have steady and reliable employment that allows to comfortably pay my mortgage. Even if I had to take another job at lower pay I could still pay my mortgage pretty easily. In this scenario owning my house is financially smarter than renting. You should look into those factors and ask yourself, "how long will it take me to amass another ~$30,000 to use as a down payment".

If you have steady and reliable work and the market is right in your area I would strongly consider looking into buying a house.

muffler, now yer talkin english

Ya I would put that into some accounts and not touch it until your mid 20's. you are about to enter a very fast paced stage of life. School is over, jobs, bills and responsibilities all hit you at once. You will grow a person a lot in the next 7-10 years and you will come out the other side asking yourself why you thought you knew anything about the world at 18.

Don't touch it. Put it to the side until you are a bit older. I don't think there's a single 18 year old anywhere that is ready for the responsibility of home ownership.
