Holy shit

I would pick eternal life only if my appearance doesnt change

eternal life i really would love to live forever to discover everything about the universe, why it was created how was created what is in the non visible universe part etc......
>>
What would you do when the earth goes to shit and you are floating in space forever? Scariest shit ever.

Inmediate Death here

Immediate death
>>
yeah, definitely immediate death.
>>
>>737226352
You could count stars or something
>>
>>737226251
But what if you're gonna be able to live long enough to see the sun burn out and most likely face an eternal prison?(Frozen in place and you can't die of hypothermia)
>>
>>737226352
if that happen i would probably be frozen so that would be a loooong sleep....
>>
>>737226489
>>737226352
I don't know how anyone would choose Eternal Life having these two things in mind.

Death
>>
>>737226057
Eternal life,
Find an island and only return to civilisation when needed.
>>
>>737226352
>>737226680
You would freeze in space and be unconscious for eternity. It's basically the same thing as dying, except maybe you'll have cool dreams or something.
>>
>>737226352
We're inventive fucks. Good chance humanity will figure out something before the stars disappear and then turn to iron.
>>
>>737226057
I think eternal life would be misterable, because what happens if you lose a arm, eye, leg, ear, your nose....You'd end up hopping around like a war torn flesh ball, groaning and gurggling to everyone you pass

yeah a PEPSI
>>
>>737226489
why do you think that we would stay in the earth while that happen? i suppose that if that happen in the near future like in 50 years we are fucked up but if that happens in 300 or more years we definetly would have had seen it come and we would have prepared the technology to leave to another planet.Stephen hawkings said that there is not much time left until we discover how and why all started.
>>
>>737226983
You'll live to see humanity solve those problems.
>>
>>737226797
You need to check the definition of eternal

Immediate death is the only rational option
>>

therefore you would turn yourself into god

We know how it all started. Quantum fluctuations. It's written in the sky.

When the earth dies I'm still alive.

Still live on that island

Eventually life will start again and then I can pretend to be god to the fucking abbos that evolve.
>>
>>737227221
Except space isn't empty. It's a seething cauldron of creation and destruction, and eventually another big bang would occur and life would get interesting again.

what you think i would choose?
>>
>>737226057
Eternal life where?
Exploring this whole universe and many others until their death then ascent to whatever heavens and conscious dimensions most likely don't exist ?
If that, sure, I take the green dot.

Other than that, red dot, please.
>>
>>737227163
We dont really know a shit, we suppose things but we dont really know how all started.
At the begining there wasn't anything and a massive energy made all? why all was made? we may suppose how all was made (big bang and shit) but i really belive that there are a lot of things that we dont really know, there are loose ends everywhere...
>>
>>737227528
The stars, them, aren't eternal

>>737227531
Even if that occurs, nothing tells you that you would be even remotely close to any matter
>>
>>737227644
I'm arguing that we're too destructive.
>>
>>737227645
To fuck an muslim.
>>
My reading of eternal life meas your body is indestructible and won't age or at least you would have certain controls of it being something of a shell that your consciousness can grow and control.

If this meaning of eternal life fits of course I would choose it.

Yes you will witness the universe end, but you will also watch it grow again. This time you can help shape certain events.
>>
>>737227702
We're pretty good at the how, not so good at the why. That's the realm of philosophers and theologians (i.e. idiots).
>>
eternal life. would love to see the world in the coming years
>>
>>737226057
Death. That was pretty easy.
>>
>>737227728
Eventually, you would be.

Eternity is a very very long time.
>>

we dont know a shit about the universe mate and i do not think that answering the question "why" is for idiots.we dont even know what was the energy that made the big bang possible.
>>
I aint choosing shit. I'll let death choose when it's time for me to die.

Not some stupid fucking red button.
>>
>>737226215
LOL, thats superficial as fuck
>>
>>737228142
We know quite a lot about the universe. And the energy came from Dirac's famous equation. It's quantum fluctuations, writ large.

implications
>>
>>737228267
not supperficial ,there is a logic reason.if your body changes as it does now, how would you be when you are 500 years old? you would be dust
>>
>>737228329
and what made these fluctuations?
>>
>>737228329
and did the fluctuations made the space as we know it? or did they were in another space plane? i mean if the big bang made the universe as we know it... at what plane were these fluctuations? sorry if i bother you with my curiosity or my bad engish but im interested.

Science pushes back the boundaries of the unknown, but they'll always be there.
>>
>>737226352
is this a motherfuckin jojo reference?
>>
>>737226057
Eternal life. I would live on Earth until it is destroyed and float until a new civilization finds me.
Then I shall sit in their homeplanet under their biggest tree, share my knowledge and continue the loop when that star dies.

I will be sharing infinite knowledge with infinite intelligent civilizations and be a legend among our universe.
>>
>>737228471
I think you might be confusing appearance with the implications of appearance, in this case that a chance in appearance necessitates a change in form. Form impacts both your appearance and your functionality, appearance does not impact functionality, it is a distinct trait. If the clause was "only if my body were not to change such that it would not deteriorate aesthetically or functionally" (or even just functionally), then I would agree. But appearance is aesthetics, functional effectiveness is a different story
>>
>>737228997

that's the reason i want to live forever, to know these things (if my body does not changes)
>>
>>737228975
Read a bit about vacuums. They're not empty, they're full of the constant creation and destruction of particles (you've probably heard of anti-matter). The Big Bang is probably just a big fluctuation. Why the fluctuations happen, I don't really know.
>>
>>737226057
eternal life, obviously. doesn't imply immortality, so when you're sick of all the shit you just an hero.
>>
>>737229144

well, both are reated, the appearance is the physical manifestation of funcional efectiveness. How can an appearence of a men who has 1000 years old can be funcional efective.
>>
>>737229664

>>
>>737226921
No invention will defeat the 2nd law of thermodynamics. The universe will die and become a homogenous cold dark cloud. And you would be doomed to fly through it eternally.

It's a thought experiment, not an actual one. Einstein had a lot of those for quantum mechanics before he finnaly embraced it.
>>
eternal life ofc
>>
>>737226057
Eternal life. Assuming I can still physically die, just won't die from old age, it isn't that bad.
And otherwise, I'd land somewhere sometime.
>>
>>737229265
Vacuums happen in space...there was no space before the bang. Space was created in the instant of bang. What happened before is something we may never know since we can only go back as far as cmbr .
>>
>>737231454
The 2nd law is really just a tendency, which only becomes a "law" because of the sheer number of smaller events turn it into near certainty. But that thought experiment showed how small actions can defeat that tendency. Implementing it in a way to reduce entropy in a complex system is currently beyond us, but that doesn't mean it's impossible.
>>
>>737231562
No, it's not assuming that. Wouldn't be an actual choice if it meant that. You can never die! Ever!
>>
Immediate death. Final answer.

>>
>>737230541
not only appear that way, but also be functionally identical to the humans of 2017. The rest of humanity would evolve and get smarter and more adapted to the environment, and you would stay the same. What if we move into space and your body never adapts so you're constantly in pain? Or humanity evolves to the point where you can no longer breed with them, or even find each other romantically attractive. Being functionally identical to the human you are now for eternity would be extremely alienating

but also interesting
>>
>>737231562
>>737231562
what is the difference between dying from old age and dying from physics? Old people die from things that are inconsequential for young people, like falling down and getting simple illnesses. Is it just that you wouldn't age?
