Ask a gun shop manager anything

~Tactical Tuesday Edition~
>>
>>737144777

Why do you think your job is interesting enough to where people would ask you questions about it.

Just because you sell a slightly unusual item doesn't mean you're fascinating.

The only interesting question would be if somebody tried to pull some shady shit in your store, and the answer is most likely no because gun owners and enthusiasts tend to be respectable people.
>>
>>737144777

>>
>>737144964
Of course not all customers are desirable. We get the occasional shady person and people I won't even hand a gun for that matter. Its a small minority of people and probably a 1-2 time weekly basis.

Stay salty.

Ruger, Springfield, RIA, Metro Arms if you want something that wont break the bank and works like it should.
If you want high end, go with Dan Wesson, Wilson Combat, NightHawk Custom

>>737145794
No. Until they become their own independent company, they will continue to be very okay in terms of quality. Buy an older one if you want better quality if you MUST have a marlin, other than that, nothing Marlin makes is unique to them that you couldn't get from someone else.

>>737145922
Ruger AR556, $499 all day long. It has some nice features too. Id recommend it over the M&P15 for that reason.

>>737145929
>M&P Sporter II (Which is just a standard non neutered M&P15...they removed basic AR features for their "sporter" model, then brought them back for the Sporter II)

>All ARs share the same basic parts so they are all on the same level of customization

>Anything by S&W, Ruger, Colt, BCM, etc major company. Most have their parts coming from the same distributors anyway since they are common parts so Its cheaper to buy them than make them. Its pretty much pick a company who's warranty you want to deal with shall anything go wrong.

>Colt, FN, HK (Technically not a true AR but close enough), anything piston driven. They all use a good barrel and BCG but those can be dropped into any "budget" AR for the same reliability and performance assuming you use the proper gas system set up for your barrel length.

>ATI but they are plastic and crack quite often.

Pretty much anything other than DPMS. They arent horrible but they are very okay. No one really does anything special in the AR world. Get a good barrel and good BCG and slap it on pretty much anything and you're good.

Personally I would get a .308 AK G3 clone for the money. Plenty of lighter options out there than an AR10.

>>737149340
Because /k/ is in the loop of the going-ons of dealers. This gives new comers an opportunity to learn from gun guys.

>>737149115
Some think they can get an arm and a leg for it. We realize its a buyers market and sometimes even beat online pricing.
>>
Do you reckon the value of Vepr's is going to increase now that they're banned and if so, by how much?
>>
>>737150295
There's no saying where the price will go. Just bear in mind that there are plenty of other great AKs out there. Prices are subject to the private market since they are mostly all gone from dealer hands. We pulled all of ours to sit on them until further notice including the .308 version with a folding stock that was only 1 of 300 made.

People will ask an arm and a leg for them. Give it a couple years and people will move them for a reasonable price. if not, get an Arsenal SAM-7 if you want a heavy and beefy AK.

I don't intend to ever sell it but I do hope that it becomes a valuable rarity someday, especially since I'm in CA
>>
>>737151159
I bought mine when they first came out in that variant from KVar. Its a hell of a rifle and a damn good one for a first center fire. You have a lifetime gun right there.

Don't sell it unless you fall on hard times or get a retardedly high offer. Make sure you get enough money to cover the cost of an SLR or other high end AK and then some.

>>
>>737151995
I'm also scared of a trigger safety. Is this unfounded? It doesn't seems like a safety at all
>>
>>737152128
It's mainly a drop safety, to ensure the trigger will only be pulled if you mean to pull it.

It's not like an actual manual safety.
>>
>>737151425
This guy heard about a blank gun we got in used. The guy kept asking sketchy shit like his intent was to use it for some crooked shit then return it. He wanted to know the return policy if he didn't like it. I told him it was simply a blank gun, you pull the trigger and the only difference between live and dry fire was noise so dry fire it before you buy it. He then kept asking to ensure he didn't need an ID to buy it to which I told him I would still require his ID. he handed the gun back and left.

The ATF arent huge assholes...at least the operations agents that do inspections arent the biggest pricks. They are just glorified paper pushers.

Aside from cheap sub $250 guns, Glock 19s and S&W Shields.

SD9/40VE is the most frequent one that ends up in the used case.

>>737151941
One up yourself and get a P99 AS. Personally i prefer the M&P to the PPQ. The PPQ, although a good gun, feels cheap.
>>
>>737144777

>>
What gun would you recommend for anal concealment?
>>
>>737152463
The cartridge is only really useful with the non-civilian load. Its a neat range gun if you can afford to buy it and feed it. There are plenty of decent ammo deals online for the blue-tip stuff. For the money, I'd personally rather get a PS90 or an AR57.

Its a good gun over all, but if you're thinking defense, save money and get better ballistic performance for much less money. If its just a range toy and you like it, go for it. I have plenty of impractical fun guns in my collection.

>>
>>737153068
It all depends on what I feel like with what Im wearing and my over all mood. Im chilling in my comfy clothes atm and am CCing a Ruger SP101, but my main EDC is a 92A1. I also sometimes CC my G42 when i want a small semi auto to carry, and a Ruger LCP when I want to pocket carry.

There are pros and cons to both platforms but there is no wrong answer as long as you feel well equipped and can carry comfortably.

>>737153401
Yes

>>737153648
You can but most just buy bulk ammo and surplus links and get to work from there. Its not a common thing since few people buy belt feds. Its just not a practical semi auto platform which deters people from purchasing them as well as the price.

Nice if you NEED to have pin point accuracy at a distance (assuming your skills match up). Otherwise you can just get a Tikka and use hand loads for great accuracy.

>>737154376
Any load is fine for that barrel length. The most important thing is matching the barrel twist rate to your preferred bullet weight. You get a bit more velocity with an extra 4" on your barrel, but other than a bench gun, i see no need to go longer unless you like the aesthetics of the original M16

>>737154457
Its not hard at all. You need the proper SOT to buy post ban automatics. Mind you there is a yearly tax you must pay to maintain the SOT. if you don't renew, you must get rid of your inventory. The gun will belong to the business but you can never own it in your personal name nor take it home with you.

>>737154542
They are good for the money and come in decent colors and furniture. Its nice if you want a high end AR with nothing flashy.

>>737154651
$400 of a crumby AR, $500 for a gen 3 glock. This is all assuming new. Drop $100-120 off the ticket for either of them used.

>>737155335
Only get a Hi Point if its TRULY all you can afford. If it is all you can afford, you should go with the 9mm for less expensive ammo. Cheaper ammo = more rounds down range for the same cost. its better than Cobra firearms at least.

For not much more than a Hipoint, you can get a used S&W SD9VE. While the trigger leaves some to be desired, at least it is reliable, lighter, and has double the capacity of the Hi Point C9.

>>737155351
Anything I know I will sit on for a long time needs to be bought at such a price. Most expect minimal loss selling their guns in a buyer's market. Take a loss or just keep it. The same holds true for the private market, but don't expect private market purchase prices at a gun shop since we still need to make a profit and sell it at a price that moves.

I got a bunch of old rifle and shotgun ammunition, belonged to my father-in-law who passed away recently. No idea how old it is, it was not scored in any particular way, just in a box in the garage.

It's not handy to look at a date, but it has been in his garage for over ten years. Some of the rifle cartridges show traces of corrosion. Humidity/moisture has obviously gotten to at least some to it. He was confined to a wheelchair for the last decade of his life and I know he has not fired a gun in that time. (Its been a long damn time since I have either, if it comes to that.)

So I am not going to test fire any of it out of anything.

To circle back to my question, once I check to make sure none of it has any collectable value, what is the/a proper way to get rid of a couple/three shoeboxes full of old ammo that I don't trust to fire.

I'm sure the local cops would have an answer, just wanted to see what anybody here thought since I happened to see this thread.

NRA went too heavy on the

Yet, more places to open carry, firearms in national parks, and record sales. It seemed like a scare tactic, imo.

>>
>>737144777
How much for an FN 5.7 and two spare magazines?
>>
>>737161856
DPMS is very okay. Nothing wrong with them but nothing outstanding either.

There is nothing practical about .40 unless youre already sitting on a LOT of ammo already. The 2.0 has a nice texture but may be too rough on the skin for carry without an under shirt. Other than that, the quality is still there and it has a greater grip texture than the standard M&P. The front serrations are useless and just drive up the cost unfortunately.

Decent for the money. Pretty much middle ground ARs

>And What do you think of the New s&w mp40 2.0's
Somewhat improved over the 1.0, but still kind of a mushy trigger.
It's a well built polymer wonder, it will do what you want.
>>
>>737162443
Not OP but

Reloading can do multiple things. You can make the ammo you want from cheap plinking ammo to match grade wonders that will shoot great groups.
Besides all that, it's just a fun hobby to understand what a certain round can do, and if you are interested at all in ballistics technology and history.
>>
>>737162443
If you have the time and don't mind the time investment, the pay off is quick if you are shooting on a weekly basis. Save your brass now. Even if you decide against reloading, you have something to barter with those who do.

Reloading is also nice for more accuracy out of your rifles.

Start off with a used single stage press and try to buy powder locally. Stay away from C frame presses.

I like some revolvers as well. I don't think I ever got to try any H&K. Surprisingly I hated the Colt Python. I liked the S&W model 29, but I couldn't stand the way the python sit in my hand. The sights and handle are so damned important in a pistol.
