Looking at the pic again, it's not just photo quality. The texture of the mountains looks too much like crumpled cloth, a lack of shading, curve, or realistic shape to the teeth on the skulls gives them a flat appearance, The bird is an anatomical nightmare. At even conversational distance, this tattoo may be hard to read.

I earnestly hope that this piece causes the artist regret and pushes him to master black and gray, a challenging style to do well, so that he does his next patron justice.

The skull in the dream catcher is bad
The mountains needed to be more crisp at the peaks
The left skull looks like its got a bulging fivehead
And the dreamcatcher is limp.

But the reaper is not bad
the right skull is alright
The trees are decent
And the overall shading isn't a total nightmare.

I just realised the reaper actually has a blade attached to the staff. I guess the lack of OUTLINE around the blade makes it part of the background. That's an important detail that is slapped right in the shit, along with so many others that just casually fall into the overall subconscious shit show of imagery that is your tattoo. He must have had a bad week, and rushed through this piece.

That's not really a very good skull at all, m8.
Get a skull or some photos and copy them, work on basic shapes. Newbs mess up skulls by getting all the details right but the underlying shape is crooked or out of perspective.
Skulls are complex, like guns or cars, you can't half ass them and call it a style.

Recommend sketching with a thick, soft pencil and/or a brush. You can vary line weight really easily. You see scratchers holding themselves back working with hard pencils and ballpoints on lined paper ugh holy shit.

That's actually a style of ink that goes back to 19th century. Oldest ones i've seen pictures of were from the 1920s.
They aren't perfect drawings but they are definite as hell and designed to be visible after time. Inks used to fade badly and so did people.
