Leviathan is the one everyone masturbates over because of the way it exploded in the sludge metal scene but blood mountain I feel is where they really developed the sound that would carry through the rest of the records

To ease into it? Cradle of Filth's Midian posted above is a good gateway. Dimmu Borgir is good too, especially since you mentioned like DM. In Sorte Diaboli might hit the spot, and/or Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia.
Sometimes though gateway music doesn't do the trick and what one really wants is something that's good and representative of it. If you're looking for more established black metal right off the bat I recommend Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk, by Emperor. If you like that one you should then listen to its predecessor, In the Nightside Eclipse.

I love atmosphereic Black Metal. Caladan Brood hits the nail on the head with it IMO, but also cause it's based on the best fucking series of all time.

I agree. It's impressive, even if it isn't necessarily to your liking. We haven't heard Clairvoyance yet, but I'd imagine it to be somewhat similar to Language, though It'll be great (to me) if there's some Exoplanet-esque material in it. I have a feeling that they deliberately chose Reimagined as the first single to share, as a way of trolling the fans who miss their older sound and/or complain that they've gotten too soft/sold out/etcetera. Even the lyrics of that song almost seem like they could be interpreted as a dig at the people who dislike it. Considering its repetitive structure which is uncharacteristic of the band along with the word repetition being reiterated throughout, it almost seems to me like an inside joke on their part. That's just something that immediately entered my mind upon hearing it and if it's true, then I find it funny.
