Because my sister-in-law is a neurosurgeon and she'd sometimes have to do ER trauma on the weekends. You couldn't say the word "motorcycle" around her without her getting apoplectic with stories about all the different ways she'd had to try to put people back together on Friday or Saturday nights when the ambulance would deposit half a carcass and a box of scraped-up body parts and say "good luck."

Cars have crumple zones, seatbelts and an entire frame around you. Motorcycles are chairs with engines and wheels. Motorcycles have a minute chance of survival in a crash compared to cars, just look at the stats.

YZF-R125

Before you fuckers say "why do you ride a 125?"

I live in the UK where the cheapest way to use a motorbike is via CBT (Compulsory Basic Training).
Other UK Bike Laws make it difficult to get any good powerful bike at my age.
That being said, I've had so much fun riding my baby R1. A lot of fun and as RidingWithTom said, you can rev the guts out of it. Such a fun little bike.
>>

Yep. Friend rode motorcycles and shit all his life, went to nursing school and within one month of being in a hospital said he would never ride one again.

>mfw the first reply isn't "your bike is trash and it looks like it too"

I turned 21 in February. I got the bike last year and come next month I will have been riding for 1 year. Never owned or used motorbikes previously.

In the UK you have CBT, A2 and A Licences. A2 restricts you to 47bhp motorbikes.
Full A Licence allows you to ride anything but can only be done once you're 24.
I'm half tempted to wait until I'm 24 and buy a Honda Grom as there literally aren't any other motorbikes that I look at and go "Omg I want that".

I agree 100% though. It's fun learning on smaller bikes as you don't have too much power to work with.

I think It's why a lot of Americans get involved in motorbike accidents.

They get their licence and get a fucking R6 or an R1, too much throttle and they're fucked.

The most I ever plan on owning in terms of power is something like an R6.

Agreed. 125s are far more forgiving, not to mention they'll handle like most other bikes. If I just rip open the throttle I'm not going to lift the front wheel, not even close. Do that with anything over 500cc and you're talking about a different story.

I have a beat up Yamaha V Star 650. Honestly riding it in LA is kinda annoying. Sitting in the hot as balls heat on the freeway for an hour hoping some asshole on the phone doesn't swerve into you. As enjoyable as riding is sometimes, I'd often prefer the air conditioning and safety of a cage.
>>
>>736490083
I think riding conditions in the US are far more dangerous compared to the UK. I think the way your roads are can contribute to that.

It literally cost me £120/150$ to do a CBT (which allows you to ride anything up to 125cc for 2 years).
Note that a CBT isn't a licence but is just a certificate. Though you still need a provisional licence.

In my opinion the R3 is too pricey for too little. Looks ugly too in my opinion and this is coming from someone who's been a fan of Yamaha since before he started riding.
Not a fan of the FZ07 though I'm a fan of the XSR700 which is basically the same thing but the Sports Heritage version.

I find it cute all the children on slow boring bikes like the 125 - 250 talking as if they know anything about bigger bikes.

The R6 and both the ZX6R are also forgiving bikes, the R6 for one is a sluggish piece of shit until the 8K RPM. After that it rocks your socks off.

Growing up, brother rode a motorcyle (and father and grandfather too... It was like a family thing)

Well, he wrecked three times, first time he was fine. Second time he broke his wrist, and third time he broke several bones in his arm and hand.

He has like 30% ability to use that arm now.
>>
>>736490689
I really liked the look of the XSR900 when it came out but was immediately put off by how it sat.. that was ~1.5 years ago though so my thoughts might've changed. Didn't know they made a 700 version so I'll check it out. Thanks
>>
>>736490256
Its flickable because its light. Thats not the same as the good handling of a supersport 600 or 1000, bigger more expensive bikes have much better suspension components and design, they are much more stable during high speed cornering.
>>
>>736490775
You can find it 'cute' all you fucking want. Riding a 125 helps introduce you to the basics of biking before you move up to a bigger bike.

Also, as anon said, It's more fun going fast on a slow bike than it is going fast on a fast bike. Not to mention with the latter you're basically always gonna be breaking the law constantly just to get any real enjoyment out of your bike.
>>

msx or grom, depending on where youre from. comes with a 125cc engine and ~9 hp. only weighs 100 kilos
>>
>>736490974
Agreed but the point I was trying to make was riding a 125 sports bike helps introduce you to riding style of a sports bike before you move up to a more powerful bike.
>>
>>736491109
If you want reliable you want something Japanese or South Korean if you want something a bit different.

A good start would be to look at Honda, Yamaha and Suzuki.

Stop trying to save face, because you spent money on a slow hunk of shit that is unsteady in high winds. For the same price you could have bought a super-sport.

They are sluggish in the low RPM range as i mentioned, and only shine high up. They are very easy to learn the basics on without killing yourself especially now since they even have select able power-modes.

"because you spent money on a slow hunk of shit that is unsteady in high winds. For the same price you could have bought a super-sport."

Christ you're fucking stupid.

If I bought a Super sport I wouldn't be able to ride it due to riding laws in my country. But of course you knew that didn't you because you clearly know everything.

I literally don't give two fucks what you think of 125s. There's a huge market for them in my country and I've had so much fun in the past year. My experiences with my bike have been amazing and with that I give a royal "fuck you" to you.

NZ has LAMS, an RS125 is ok the 250 is not legal. I think that a learner could cope with an RS250, you have to be up in the RPM range to get power and from what ive seen, they are tough start, i think you would learn quick.

In the UK if you're riding under CBT (Not even a bike licence), we're not allowed to use pillion and not allowed to use motorways/freeways. I remember my first time on a duel carriage way on my 125 and I was shitting myself when a 16 wheeler went past me less than 3 meters away.
But honestly I'm very rarely in a situation where I'm going 'too slow'.

SO you think you know what you are talking about, because your shit hole of a country isn't free and dictates what you can ride even if you're an adult.

Just because you were forced to ride a hunk of garbage that cant overtake on a freeway doesn't mean it's a great starters choice.

Jokes on you, cunt. I'm not allowed on freeways on my 125 because I only have a CBT. I also have LITERALLY no reason to go on a freeway.

We're restricted by what we can use because It's sensible. You sound like the kind of person who would have an R1 as his first bike and end up killing himself because he doesn't know how to handle a bike. Like so many American bikers do. Natural selection.

And yes. I do know what I'm talking about. Because I'm at least open minded enough to understand the benefit of owning a 125. Unlike you, who's clearly so far up his ass that he won't listen to reason, and with that, I'm not gonna waste any more time talking to you. :)

Yeah NZ has just started a CBTA scheme to encourage young riders to get training so they can fast-track their license. I think LAMS is more sensible than the UKs rules. We realize that most crashes are single vehicle, riders fault in a corner. So open road skills are highly prioritized. I rode over 50,000km during my first 3 years. Mostly open road, single carriageway.

Yeah its like we have a racetrack on our backdoor. But so much gravel in the roads. And all the patchwork makes for some dangerous road surface. I hit a raised patch of blacktop on the exit of a corner the other day, had been raining earlier and it still was damp. Lit up the rear wheel at 80Kmh while still leaned over, just about high sided it into the river 50m down over the guard rail. I kept the throttle steady and rode it out.

I'm never great about explaining what bike suits someone. For me it's a mix of what I like and what I need my bike for.

All my friends own sports bikes and when I saw photos of the YZF-R125 I pretty much saw it and thought "I need that". I use my bike to commute and ride around whenever i feel like it. I live next to a huge forest (The New Forest) and we have lots of windy roads so It's always fun going on the twisties. If you're someone who thinks they'd enjoy just relaxing on a bike ride I'd suggest either a naked or a cruiser. But it's all down to you at the end of the day.

Because I work for a living and need to move things around, can't fit much on a motorcycle.

Totally ready to call Bs, But assuming those speedo's are accurate, i'm impressed, that's actually amazing.

Actually that sounds like the kind of place I live, except it on a mountain, so it's very hilly.

You can have a car AND a bike ( if you got da funds that is) ?
Bikes arent for transportation, theyre for pleasure. Saying i dont own a bike cause i cant put anything is like saying im not eating chocolate because i stay hungry after it.

>>736493179
No here you have to provide your own bike
but to buy one you have to have a license
and then to learn in the first place, well, you can't just go riding it around

it's a catch 22 of dumbfuckery in legislation

It's more than amazing, the Honda Crf450X from above >>736493300 in full supermoto top's out at 160kmph.
Something here doesn't add up, even with me being well aware of aprilia 125's abilities.

Is that a fireman's bike? What's with the ladder on the side?
>>
>>736493603
there is no way thats right. You dont need a license to buy a vehicle. You learn on the bike on private property, dirt bikes are great for this, or take lessons. Then go take your test. Most places will supply a bike, i had to use a crappy gn125, could literally pin it 1st through 3rd gear during the test in the parking lot.

An Enduro or an Adventure bike might suit you then if you near where there are mountain roads.I'd have a look on Auto-Trader and search by Bike types and see what tickles your fancy. If you see something you like then have a look at some reviews.

no anon i think thats a kind of fencing that you put up to grow a vine plant on in your garden. I think it would work well for that, because Ducat's spend so much time off the road, you could aesthetic the shit out of your property with one of them.

100% chance of a crash at some point. I drive extremely responsibly, but have 0 faith in the other drivers on the road.

It sure is fun with bikes. But there is a huge risk that you at some point will crash.
Didnt really have the time for my bike so i was thinking of selling it last summer but then i crashed it instead.
Was just driving calmly and had just passed a crest when a huge bird flew up from the side of the road and in front of my face and i somehow crashed when i was braking for it. Think it was a white-tailed eagle or something similar.

"i somehow crashed when i was braking for it"
People who dont like driving tend to be shit at it too.
