I think that's the issue with lots of modern art. When I read things like "It explores the complexity of the human soul and makes you wonder about what we are as a species" I don't really expect a red circle inside of a triangle on a black canvas.

it really depends on what you would want to charge but I personally would say minimum 15 dollars. But it could be more than that if you wanted, it usually depends on how much of a following you have. If your just starting out then 25 would probably work.

Conceptual art is a different animal. It's complicated because the artists don't work in their style haphazardly. All of the masters of Modern art were highly skilled in not only working methods, they were also capable of technical brilliance and had a master's understanding of art history and aesthetic theory. They deliberately made decisions to break the rules that were set up in academies. The rejection of perspective, form, etc. to work in a more direct manner.

If you look at the late works of painters like Goya and Rembrandt you can see this idea or rejection already starting. Rembrandt painted a late self portrait which had as its back drop to massive blobby circles as his background. Goya's black paintings, the last paintings he made, are almost entirely one or two colors with little to no detail. If painters didn't have to rely on commission work we would have seen Jackson Pollock emerge in the 18th century.
