Why are many (not all) Russian people so serious during daily

total BS. Been to Moscow and people are cheerful and smiling. I heard that myth about "Russians think smiling means you're retarded", but it was not the case. I don't if it's like that outside the city, but Moscow is a nice and welcoming place to visit as a tourist.

It doesn't make you look mentally ill as long as you have a reason to smile at strangers.

But the girls know whats up, and for what basically amounts to $100 or $150, you can take a couple of girls back to your hotel and do whatever you want to them, no condom, and no judgment from the hotel staff. Being Russian myself, I concur with this gentleman. Although, with the younger people the picture is not so gloomy: they're mostly cheerful, more or less happy and smiling. In a nutshell, for the older people, the reason for this gloom and bitterness is that they miss the Soviet Union, where the government did all the thinking, and you didn't have to worry much. When it went down, a lot of opportunities rose, but people who were used to a dogmatic and old way of thinking couldn't adapt, hence the bitterness, malice, and poverty.

It's actually a thing. Russians are generally quite reserved and naturally pessimistic. My wife is Russian, and her mom and dad live with us. They've all said how weird it is that everybody smiles so much here in the us.

Moscow is going to be a different beast - it's got a lot of mixing with tourists and it's a more outward looking city. It's not typical.

I agree with that completely. Understanding the why is a pretty important thing that is all too often found to be lacking in the US. Liberal educations have taught us to just accept everyone as they are. When you have people giving their children hormone treatments while they're still in the single digits there is a problem. That child thinks that they're something that they're not because the parent wants them to be it.

It happened to my uncle with his Romanian wife. She would constantly ask him to buy her stuff he couldn't afford, would get aggressive when he didn't, managed to make him marry her (she was here on work visa) without him warning any of his family, not even his own mother and so on.

Fucking bullshit. But in all honesty, we are on an unchangeable downward spiral. First comes unity and growth. Then comes corruption. Then comes decay. This is the cycle, and I only wonder who will succeed us. I would take a flat tax in a heartbeat, which apparently is supposed to mean I'm a libertarian. I would love for social security to go the way of the dodo bird, which apparently is supposed to mean I'm a republican. And I would fully endorse a vicious war against North Korea, which apparently means no one in power agrees with me. But all of that, fucking all of it, is apparently secondary to the fact that I would like gays to be allowed the right to marry, that I would like healthcare to be legislated as non-profit, that I would like net neutrality to be protected and set in stone.

I wouldn't just reach across the isle, I'd set up a bar there, if it were viable.

Our education system is indoctrinating people in an anti capitalism mentality and it's been slowly crippling us for awhile now.

Kim Jong-il's eldest son actually wanted to try to phase North Korea out of the fascist state it's in and was arrested and sidelined because of this.
