Get shot with what? Rifle or pistol? I've personally tested some AR500 plates, it held up against .308 and no round ever went through the best it can do it push a plug out which is survivable.

Even stopped a .50BMG round, second round ripped through it.

Not going to assume that you don't know what you're talking about here, but for others reading this thread who aren't aware; You don't bear armor with a larger round. You beat it with a hotter round.

The same goes for kevlar soft body armor. You could get a .50 cal hand gun and some soft armors can stop it. Meanwhile you could get a relatively normal rifle round and it would go straight through it like it was butter.

When defeating armor it's not the size of the round that matters, it's the speed of the bullet. Harder core bullets can help, but even a steel core or green tip won't penetrate hardened plate without the speed it needs.

So yeah, the trick to armor isn't size - it's speed. Find hotter ammunition and suddenly those normal FMJs become armor piercing.
>>
>>736276740
not really, it isn't even the best quality/price. for ballistic vests, get a steel plate core, not that kevlar stuff, if you want to take on more than handguns
>>
>>736279455
pistol
>>
>>736277279
>DoJ

Get DEA. Distance from edge is 1" instead of 3" and can take more than 1 shot. Get a type 2 vest with type 3/4 plates or spend $6000 on dragon scales.
>>
>>736279808
E=mv^2 so yeah, speed is much more important than mass. but what is even more important is bullet geometry. hp vs fmj etc.
>>
>>736279808
>Find hotter ammunition

Just for personal protection, keep one in the car with my rifle. They are low vis so I can wear them under my coat.

>>736279808
Oh I know you'd be dead if you get with with .50BMG the kinetic energy would cause massive internal damage

The armor are made for smaller calibers and if you have the money double up on plate and soft armor will greatly increase your chance of surviving. I've shot the plate with XM193 ammo out of 16" barrel at 75 yard, didn't go through at all. Only one made it through hit near where the 7.62x54r hit before. It's metal fatigue not much you can do.

Also keep in mind if you are wearing armor and you get hit once, you are not going to stand up and say "Is that all you got?" I'd hit the deck and count my lucky star and get the FUCK out of there.
>>
>>736280421
different caliber usually means different speed. look up the kinetic energy of a round, that's what matters
>>
>>736280147
Pistols... get AR500 with some kind of coating for the front so you don't get spalling under your chin.
>>
>>736280515
>Just for personal protection
Are you a bounty hunter? Don't see the need for it unless your job requires you to put yourself in harms way regularly.
>>
>>736280421
Hotter ammo usually means more powder which increase the velocity of the projectile - like XM193 ammo it has same projectile as 55gr but XM193 travel at 3165 +/- 40 FPS while regular 5.56 ammo runs about 3050 FPS with 55gr ammo

Not judging or arguing. Just trying to wrap my head around why someone would want one. OP made his case. I understand that now.

Maybe from a collectors standpoint, or again someone with a dangerous job, or if you lived in a war torn country or plan on getting in a shootout.

There are cheaper ways to impress your friends. I'd just feel silly buying one, and never having the opportunity arise to even worry about having it on.

This. 5.56 M193 from an 18" barrel, and likely some 16" barrels, will provide enough velocity to penetrate AR500 at close range.
>>

I think a lot of people who buy it want it for an unlikely shit hit the fan scenario. It's also good for possible home invasion if you have time to put it on.

>>
>>736280421
>>736280421

It's a think. The sweet spot is usually around 3,000 feet per second. If you can get to 3,200 feet per second you'll be piercing AR500 armor plates in a vest (depending on thickness, of course).

You can increase the velocity by either packing more powder in the round or by extending the barrel of your rifle. Generally the longer the barrel the more time those gases have to work on pushing that round. So if you were shooting an already "hot" round out of a 24 inch barrel that fucker is going to be screaming through that plate.
>>
>>736281375

Why wouldn't you want body armor? If you ever need it, at least you will have it. Just like I don't 'need' SBRs and suppressors, but I enjoy having them and would definitely use them for home defense. It takes forever to get your form 1s approved by the ATF, but it is worth the wait in my opinion.

Seems kind of hot. I live in Florida so I tend to travel light regardless. Or felt my life to be in enough danger to spend the money on something like that.

I don't really find needless spending on any level all that important. I prefer my car to run well than look good. It's all status symbols and frivolity.

>>736284120
Britbongs will find some way to defense this by saying AMERIFATS LOLOLOLOL while presenting no valid argument. You'll see, that, or some yurop is going to be like "why would you ever need to defend yourself what kind of shithole do u live in crime NEVER EVER happens in good areas xdxd" little fun fact here, you're more likely to get murdered than die in a car accident, yet you wear seat belts. You never argue "OOH WHAT KIND OF AREA DO U LIVE IN THAT HAS SHITTY DRIVERS" Because that would be stupid, SHITTY drivers are everywhere, yes in some areas they're more common, but they're everywhere. "JUST DON'T DRIVE AFTER 6:00 PM LOL" Accidents happen before 6. The wording changes, but the idea behind every anti gun or anti self defense argument remains the same and has been rebutted.

Body armor is a great idea in any home defense situation. Personally I have an IBA with plates under my bed that I can throw on very quickly. An old surplus IBA is ideal because it goes on with two panels in the front instead of over the head, faster implementation. Remember all of your walls in your home are concealment, not hard cover, most pistol rounds will sail right on through most of your home. Unless you have sandbags placed in your wallboard.

While you might look like an autist it is a nice thing to have at certain ranges/for shooting and sometimes a requirement for certain training courses encase you get shot on accident.

can you logically deduce? his argument is that seatbelts come into play much more often for the average citizen than body armor. magnitudes more often in fact. The average person in america, during the course of their lifetime, is involved in 3-4 road accidents. the average person in america, during the course of their lifetime, has a chance of involvement in a shooting of "The odds of being murdered using a firearm in the US in a given year are about 30,000 to 1. If you aren't engaged in some sort of criminal enterprise, and don't live in a violent domestic situation, your odds are much, much lower, around 150,000 to one"

it's common sense to wear a seatbelt, but it is not common sense to wear body armor, as it is not common in america to be shot, even with what europeans say
>>
About $250 for basic 4 plates ar500 armor and the vest. If you want all that extra shit then obviously the price goes up

You never understood my point to begin with. You think I dislike guns or that people want to protect themselves.

All I have ever been talking about is practicality and usefulness. Sure, you can protect yourself like you're going into a battlefield, but that's not practical for everyday.

I use my car every day. I don't get shot at often. So weighing the value of my dollar, I would choose something I might get use out of. I'm not here to tell anyone how top spend their money. But I would think most people would see it as a silly expenditure, when you have no use for it, and the chances of using it are slim to none.

You can argue better safe than sorry, but that's not a good argument, because I could choose to live in a decontaminated padded bubble to be safe, but that isn't much of a life, now is it?

Get the sand out of your vagina. this is /b/. Not everything is an argument
>>
>>736287184
if you didnt shoot anyone, yes you're LARPing. clearly the situation was overblown by you and people associated with you
>>
>>736287415
but if u cant see it - its no fun. i wanna look like fitty cent.
>>
>>736287322
I wear concealable body armor all the time for Craigslist deals.
>>
>>736287074
that's an argument that holds no weight in factual evidence though, but im sure you're well aware of that with your ostracizing tone heh
>>
>>736287429
You do know ballistic armor doesnt JUST protect you from bullets, right?
>>
>>736287508
kek that is a good idea mayne. ppl from the internet cray
>>
>>736287100
and? my car is less than 100 feet from my room, i could easily go in there and take a picture of me sitting in there with the seatbelt fastened. im really curious because if what you say is true, they are looking at a lawsuit in the immediate future when some manlet crashes
>>
>>736287127
You could also get bit by a shark in the ocean. Should we just stop doing that or can I make the choice to get in because I'm not a pussy worrying about "what if"
>>
>>736287477
this is fairly similar to the argument presented here
>>736287429
>>
>>736287557
extrapolate please. im not even trolling, im genuinely interested.

Did somebody said BULLETPROOF ????
>>
>>736287593
Then you take a picture of you and your car.

How the hell do you expect to get the scale of my stature from a selfie anyway?
>>
>>736287679

you know that high speed projectiles (like a shitty FN-90) can penetrate also type IV vests on a 1000ft range, don't you?
>>
wikipedia is your friend, albeit a gay one
>>
>>736287756
i dont care about your stature. i care about it relative to the seatbelt, because if what you claim is true, that it "chafes your neck", that's a huge legal issue for hyundai down the road.

but judging from your defensiveness, you probably are a manlet.

id take a picture but no one wants to see my 6'1 frame in a '08 volkswagen jetta
>>
>>736287632
Not.
An.
Argument.
>>
>>736276484
Build a bunker. Much more protection.

>>736286320
Mah nigger

>>736287743
Yes, those "Vest" Peasants did
>>
>>736287846
i dont see how that answers my question. other anon said it doesnt JUST protect from bullets, but you bring up bullets.
>>
>>736287679
Pretty much any kind of blunt force or sharp weapons going for your mid body
>>736287629
It's not illegal to get in the ocean, if you're scared, you have the choice to not swim. You also have the choice to live in an insulated padded bubble, the key here is CHOICE, if you don't like it, doesn't mean I don't. Maybe I like the idea of being safe at only the cost of having some extra weight under my clothes. Maybe I like the Idea of being able to kill someone if they're trying to kill me and not just sit there and not lay down and die like some faggot. Ballistic armor may not be entirely practical, but sure as hell guns are. You saw the chungchings defending their shop right?
>>
>>736287920
simply saying "not an argument" doesnt make it true.

maybe you should reread the bottom linked post, it seems you didnt fully understand the argument presented there
>>
>>736287885
Ok. Just hold on. I'll have a picture for you soon.
>>
>>736287973
>Pretty much any kind of blunt force or sharp weapons going for your mid body
oh gotcha, appreciate it, although not super applicable to me
>>
>>736287988
appreciate it anon, i legitimately am not trying to belittle your or anything, just find it insane that a seatbelt in a modern car goes over one's neck.
>>
>>736287978
>simply saying "not an argument" doesnt make it true.
You don't say
>>
>>736288033
It's kind of sad because the areas where people need these things the most are always the areas where they're banned.
>>
>>736288110
good argument. please respond when you have something substantial to post
>>
>>736288062
>appreciate it
Dammit dude.
Are you really going to make me feel bad for lying to you for the past hour?

Literally the only truth I've posted in this thread has been that it was 4 in the morning. Doesn't really matter if you think I'm a manlet, but in truth I like how the seat belt hugs me. The pressure and constraint is comforting.

I'm going to bed. Sorry no picture
>>
>>736288307
you feel bad...? about lying to a stranger on the internet...? i dont give a fuck man, i wouldnt feel bad about it.

so you've lied about the seatbelt chafing your neck, which i anticipated, because that doesnt make any fucking sense.

> Doesn't really matter if you think I'm a manlet
you are a manlet. no one tall posts this kind of shit, or even thinks about posting this kind of shit, we dont feel a need to defend ourselves like you manlets.

have a good night
>>
>>736279078
god damn you guys are hardcore

get a piece of lexan with a gauge that can hold up to the caliber used

try mcmastercarr or industralmetals
>>
>>736287444
I thought you needed to be a PMC or an athrouty figure to buy stuff like this. Didn't know it can be sold to the public
>>
>>736288924
authority*
>>
>>736276484
Yes. If you are not military, it costs more. If you are not paramilitary, it costs even more. Etc. Etc. It costs the most to private citizens, also putting you on a list. Not because the vest makes you dangerous, but the list is more like a "He bought this, he must be planning shome shit" list.
>>
>>736289091
Would they come to your house and question you if you bought 5 vests? I dont know anything about the US
>>
>>736287479
>>736287479

Yeah, because a city being burned down in a massive riot just a short drive away isn't anything to worry about. Especially when there were riots breaking out all over CA and other parts of the country. Totally over blown to think we should defend a fucking gun store from possible looters and rioters.

Fucking idiot ...
>>
>>736289209
dude I sell vests on Ebay and no one has ever questioned me no one gives a fuck
>>
>>736276484
In the USA, yes
>>
I am curious. OP says he needs a ballistics vests? Why? Do you do some testing with ballistics and want it for extra safety?
>>
>>736279078
So the guy who drinks the least puts his life on the line. Your group of peers seem like a pretty toxic environment to be in.
