I would like to conduct an unscientific poll. Just bored and curious.

ITT: State whether or not you consider your political beliefs to be:

A. left leaning
>or
B. right leaning

The practical truth of the matter is that the younger you are, the more left-leaning you are, and as you grow older, you get more experience in the world, see how people/strangers are, how they treat you and others, and you see yourself becoming more right-leaning.

I know academics like to say that this is due to fear, but it's not. Any healthy dose of reality and worldly experience will show you the dangers of Ivory Tower thinking. This isn't to say we shouldn't aspire to left-leaning thinking, but age and wisdom show the necessity of balancing that with real-world right-leaning.

>>735843287

Well, if you think about it most of those should be essentially conservative positions. A true conservative doesn't want to see the government getting involved in your personal life. I can remember a time when what you would call a libertarian was actually thought of as a conservative and today's religious right was just sitting on the fringe of the party.

Reagan brought them in and let them sit in the driver's seat and the party has never been the same.
>>
>>735840543
more left-leaning
I used to be more socially conservative when I was younger, but I find the idea of people meddling in others' lives to be abhorrent and that was a very big turning point in my development.
most of it comes down to "fuck off, don't tell people what to do"
>>
Economically B, socially A. Though these Extreme SJW faggots make it hard for me to admit that. I don't want to be associated with them.
>>
>>735843287

I think more people support common-sense gun control than, say, the NRA would lead people to believe. I'm a raging SJW, but pro-gun and pro-gun-control. Honestly I used to take the pro-gun party-line but after all these shootings I think it's dumb that hardliners essentially just shout down any discussion from any reasonable people, and the NRA speaks to the interests of gun manufacturers, not owners.
>>
>>735843447
>I can remember a time when what you would call a libertarian was actually thought of as a conservative and today's religious right was just sitting on the fringe of the party.

Bullshit. BOTH libertarians and the religious right were once at the fringe of the party. The Goldwater libertarian types were considered nuts in their time.

It wasn't until the 70s that the libertarians and the religious right started to become ascendant in the party, which culminated in Reagan fusing them and riding that wave to victory.

That's a political position too, though it's one shared by groups on both the left and the right.
>>
I really think the Internet has been a net negative on political discourse. Sure it helps people communicate and get more information, but I think it spurs people to be far more extreme and hostile than they otherwise might be.

In online discourse you get attention or responses for being more extreme, so it conditions you to express your views more strongly and in starker terms that you might (initially) have done, which just creates a feedback loop of people getting louder and angrier.
>>

Dude, try learning just a little about a topic before trying to speak about it:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Left-libertarianism

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Right-libertarianism

The very term "libertarian" was originally used to refer to left-leaning anarchists in 19th century France. It's only relatively recently and in the US that "libertarian" is a term synonymous with a form of right libertarianism.

There are all sorts of libertarian schools of thought across the political spectrum:

Right leaning. Though I do think there should be a social network and safety net. I believe in taxes to build roads, schools, hospitals, fire departments, the justice system and all it entails: police, court, prisons, child services. Unemployment, retirement, welfare, the things to make sure no one in this country is truly destitute and will die from a lack of care. Hopefully we evolve one day to make it so everyone has opportunity not just surviving.

I also believe in labor laws, safety standards, minimum wage, environmental standards and the systems we need in place to enforce such standards. That way no business will be a one room basement with one door and 50 workers make less than $5 a day in the heart of the city. That my friend is how you get slums.

Reminder to you american faggots that liberalism is not leftism. Liberalism is a broad ideology that both american conservatives, and progressives believe in. The american constitution is built on liberal ideas such as property, life (protection like police, fire dept, and welfare), and liberty. You faggots need to stop infighting over miniscule bullshit, and stand together against anti liberal ideologies, like socialism, and fascism.

I'm sad by how divided our country has become. It didn't help we had 2 candidates that are polar opposite of eachother. But the media did do its fair share of helping dividing us also. I believe we need an independent in office next time around. And administration that can work and compromise with the left and the right. Once the left and the right (meaning congress members and politicians) start fighting and bickering with eachother and can't make decisions anymore (which has been happening), the good of American people goes out the window. They get caught up in winning over the other side. Trump was right about draining the swamps, but we need new people who are genuine and not buddies of the president.

TL, DR, A - Left leaning edgelord autist.

I've become frustrated with the current political situation in the US, choosing between what I saw as bad and worse for the last few years, even before the Shillary and Putin fiasco last year. I'd call myself somewhat radical, but I couldn't join the goons on either side. They're all so close minded, calling each other sheeple seems ironic considering the opinions they stand by... Now I live alone in the countryside with no trespassing signs on all borders of my property. I only let my girlfriend and a few other family members into my home at this point, and I can't help myself but get into fights whenever I go into town for groceries or other things. There's always some sort of political protest with a bunch of stupid kids fighting about abortion or social security. I can't stand the inbreds and the dindus fighting when I'm trying to get bread and milk every week. So, like a perfectly reasonable guy, I just beat the shit out of the first person I see and keep going until they all run. I'm not a particularly good fighter, but I've sent probably half a dozen people to the hospital. Somehow I haven't been charged with assault yet, and only left with minor injuries. People give me weird looks in town now, but if it means some egotistical young punk ass kid goes home with a broken bloody face, it's worth it.

Also I'm a schizophrenic, if that explains why I'm so automatic.
>>
>>735843609

Suppose that liberty is right wing, which I believe that it is. However the right is not entirely clean with it's concepts. The lack of choice for women, the prevalence of religious beliefs inside of the Republican Party and the use of them on political issues concerns me. There's a certain lack of progress within their idea of society, as well as being a little too close with large shady companies and organizations also greatly concerns me. Stalin was left, and a tyrant at that. But so was Hitler, Mussolini, Hirohito, and other rightists at the time.
Tyranny is not a progressive or liberal concept.
