yeah same for me I had American friends, planned on visiting, one became a manager and never comes online anymore. The other was having wife trouble and left and let his kids with the xbox. My dutch friend was successful and flies around the workd so is never on. I got married and didnt really play much for a couple years. Just the way it goes damn shame. This shouldn't be your takeaway from this.

People pick up hobbies and lose them all the time. This guy got in on one that was big in the 2000's and found lots of people there. They became his bread and butter every day, it's pretty probable he was dealing with them more often than not. Then over the years people lose interest, people get jobs, get relationships. They become too busy. They die. Until just he remained.

Now it's sad in two ways. One is that the is the last man standing of that crew. There's some nostalgia feels there in that he's the tail end of an era.
The other is that he's presumably the last one to develop a life outside of WoW. Over 12 years people grew, they found reasons to keep them away from WoW, or in a few cases they fell away. He didn't. And this picture is his last act of defiance against the inevitability that everything has end end, and so does this digital safe space. It's just that on the other side of that threshold, when he leaves it behind, there's nothing else to move on to. He assigns so much value to a videogame guild but he's the only person who remembers its existence, the only person to who it is now significant.
