Wall in the real world I think it symbolizes pink is at the age where he realizes his father could easily still be alive if they had just pulled out of the war and brought all the troops home, and that may have averted the depression he's in.

I also think inside his head it symbolizes that he just wants the simpler times back (symbolized as soldiers, or The Boys) before all the depression and internal struggle (symbolized by a war).
