I'm would rather cook or make music professinally even though it pays way worse.
I shouldn't complain; I'm pretty damn good at my job and it comes with a lot of benefits.

Day trading is pretty tough now with computerized trading and algorithms. I'd say just start reading about the stock market and put a very small amount into stocks to see how it goes (just to learn how to day changes, I'm talking a small small amount), then really it is a research game. I spend most of my day researching stocks rather than actually buying or selling.

Yes. And researching the company news, and anticipating market changes. For example Nucor do some research in what they make. Then watch those industries. If you think the raw material usage will go up, then it's possibly a good time to buy or hold. If you think something political or economic might slow those industries down, then maybe better to sell (or short, but I don't do much of that). So you'd be looking at manufacturing fields that use their product. I do lots and lots of research for every stock and then religiously follow the news. I recommend the magazine The Economist also for general global news.

So i've got a problem. I'm in insurance right now and i dont really like it much.

I have an oppurtunity to go to a new agency that would pay better and make the sales process a lot better or I could start driving a bus for the city and focus on other things such as learning programming/music. However I hate the idea of working for the government.
