He was captured and executed quite by accident, for something unrelated. When investigators began searching thru his murder castle, about 1/4 of it was analyzed before it mysteriously caught fire one night and burned down.

My guess is what the investigators found while going through it was so horrific and diabolical they couldn't go on any further, and set about to burn the whole thing down and may have thought no one should ever be able to know just what else there was inside.
