I get what you are saying, i live in europe so i don't really have the problem, but you can see how insurance based healthcare creates a perverted incentive for people to remain sick in order to not increase their premiums, which in turn can make their conditions worse (in this case an easy to treat burn to a problematic infection) and overall it reduces the general health of the nation.

It is in the interest of the governament to mantain its citiziens healthy, so even running it to a loss, it is, in my view, worth it provided it does not bankrupt the state.

This being said, i somehow believe that in the particular case of america, there is no way whatsoever to go full european style. Aside from the fact that the usa has huge health problems like obesity, and all sorts of shit you get from the lack in regulation in food production and poor dietary standards; the insurance system is too well established and quitting it would surely crash the nation's economy.
