Any business to do with Fluffies would still be the target of:

I believe smarties are born out of a power vacuum, which is why they're more likely to happen in feral herds and why there's only one smarty per herd. With no human to lead fluffies, the one who just happens to be smartest (or at least the most proactive) gets held in higher and higher regard, which in turn raises their ego as they start believing it themselves. And eventually a life of leading idiots makes them treat even humans as idiots to be lead.

As for curing smarty syndrome, when pride and self-esteem are the cause, humiliation is the cure.

What if all those times where the fluffies were talking about having "gud mummahs and daddehs" is actually just the fluffies' experience with traffickers like Mcgonagall here.

Think about it. Most people in this world hate these things, but a good portion of the abused claim to have had good owners. But if they're just being passed around by traffickers (who will take just enough care of them that they could be happy because they're easy as fuck to please at first), what if their entire experience with humans was being shuffled around by these guys and being treated nice, being pampered by their standards, only to one day wind up in the hands of the final owner, the abuser who paid a lot of money to be able to fuck up another hugboxers chance of getting a rare colored one.
