turn on your local rock radio station. they pretty much all sound like tool. not many people have a voice like maynards but the instruments and the types of singing they do in mainstream rock music are pretty similar.

Andy Sixx has released a lot of similar tracks.

"Prison Shit", "Sober Logs", "10,000 Logs", and "Pushit Out" are all really great songs.

Porcupine Tree has brief moments that sound like tool, but I wouldn't say "as satisfying"

I'mPuscifer is where Maynard is right now. They actually have some very unique and cool shit. Tool was a stepping stone in his career. We all love tool. We all wish they would return. Unfortunately, for some of the band members, it's like going back to an old girlfriend you caught fucking someone else. All you have is memories of the head you got in a weird place.

I love APC, myself (OP), but it does not feel the same.
You should try eMOTIVe. People disliked it 'cuz its a cover album, but I prefer those versions more than the original ones.

Then there are songs like Pet, and The Hollow that are pretty great.

If you haven't seen Maynard's "From blood to wine" documentary, check it out. He is very serious about branching out into venues other than music. It's quite comical as well. He's a cool dude. I also heard good son is trying to do something musically although i don't know if there is any truth to it.
