You know what's hilarious? A lot of servers and bartenders typically make more than that in an hour at a busy restaurant. I've put in three hours of work and walked out with 150 in hand some days. Even still, tipping is how they get paid. Between tipouts and the low wages (less than minimum in certain states), if a server sees no tip, they're essentially paying the customer to eat there. It's a system of extremes.

with tip credit, if they do not make at least minimum wage during a shift in tips and whatever they make (which can be cut to $2.13 an hour) the employer must pay them up to minimum wage.

I worked as a waiter for about six months when I was in sixth form. Easy job, even when busy. All you do is take orders (you get a pad and a pen, it's exactly as hard as it sounds) and then bring it to them from the pass to their table. If there has been a long wait because it's busy you just send the apologies on from the chef. If someone gives you shit you just tell the manager to come over and see them.
