She wants the D. Put it on your dick and post pictures, OP. Very important. Hiroshimoot wills it.
>>
>>734225543
Nope. Queen doesn't look like a worker ant, just bigger.
>>
Wats that a sugar cube?
>>
>>734225543
Cant really tell. Could also be some juggernaut-type-soldier-caste-ant.
>>
>>734225543
A young ant queen will have wings. One that has already established a colony will have a larger abdomen. This of course depends on the breed and stuff.
>>
Found it alone under a piece of bark, so thos is just a big carpenter ant worker?
>>
>>734225543
Is that a sheep it's standing on?
>>
>>734225918
kek
>>
The "sugar cube" is a cotton ball
>>
>>734225949
Probably that then. Queens of any insect are rarely alone
>>
Looks like it's projecting a force field of some sort. Could be a queen
>>
I don't know
>>
>>734225543
No, it's just a soldier transitioning to a drone.
>>
>>734225543
Looks like a carpenter ant. But there's a billion species of ants so pretty hard to be sure. Definitely not a queen though.
>>
no, its thot ant
>>
I am still unsure of what it is but reading to you guys, I doubt it is a queen. Did anyone ever try luring them with a uv light?
>>
>>734226714
>luring
>UV light
you mean burning
>>
>>734226714
Are they attracted to the UV or do they light up in UV like scorpions?
As a kid my grandpa would take us out into the yard, lift a tile with an ant nest under it and teach us about how they live their life.
>>
Looks like it's just a wood or carpenter ant major. This is around the time when nuptial flights start though, so if you're looking for a queen, now would be the time. Look for the ones with wings and hope that she's mated already
>>
I have read they are attracted to blacklights.

This is a cool memory of your grandad!
>>
>>734227112
Ty for the advice!

Ant fag here, no it is just a worker Carpenter ant (Camponotus genus or species or whatever) Queen will have a larger abdomen and larger middle section where the wings once were. You may find one after or before a rain shower as that is when they do their nuptial flight.

Pic of my colony for proof of any fagness.

Yeah, he also taught me a bunch of stuff about birds and plants. He was really nice back then.
It's too bad that the levi body dementia has taken him, the grandpa I once knew is dead, but his body is still walking and talking.
>>
Ants are fairly photosensitive, they don't really like bright lights near their nests or the corresponding change of temperture.
>>
>>734227372
how long do ants live for?
>>
>>734227519
Another anon than the one you asked here.
It depends on the race of ant, some ant queens have been known to live to about 30 years.
>>
THEM was a great movie.
>>
>>734227372
This was helpful, it is raining right now but it is fairly cold. Should I go outside looking when it stops or do they fly in hotter weather?

How long have you had your colony?
>>
>>734227519
What the other guy said, depends on the type. But generally workers live for a few months but the queen could live for years.
>>
>>734227519
Depends on the species. Generally queens, if the conditions are right, live for a long time (15+ years), and I think the record for one in captivity is somewhere near 29 years. Workers tend to die and are replaced fairly quickly, month or two. Colonies themselves can last almost indefinitely as long as they can maintain a proper habitat. There are also some species that house multiple queens within a single colony which helps in that. Generally, especially in captivaty, a colonies success and growth is determined by its avaliable food source
>>
>>734227926
They prefer to fly after the rain not during because it is a lot harder to stay up while getting pelted by rain. You can go out and look around for the queens after it rains though most ant types prefer to fly in warmer weather. The new queens may or may not still have their wings they pretty much rip them off when they feel like it. If you find a queen running around by her self with wings chances are she has mated, but you wouldn't be able to just pull a winged queen out of their nest and expect it.
>>
>>734227378
I have similar cases in my family, it is a fear of mine to go down thay road. At least he is being remembered for great reasons.
>>
>>734225867
Cotton ball you dense fuck.
>>
>>734228370
actually cotton isn't that dense

Oh forgot to say I have had my colony for about a year now. I actually got lucky and managed to pull one of the queens out of the nest when she was near the surface so I also snagged around 40 workers to kick start the nest.

Here is another pic.

We've had geneticists check us out to see if it is hereditary, apparently it isn't.
But if I at any point start feeling dementia coming on, I'm going to visit a country with legally assisted suicide.
>>
>>734228493
Cool! It most be doing well by now. Do you have a picture of your outworld?

I just got interested in ant keeping. I hope to find my first queen soon.
>>
>>734228551
I should ask if suck test were ran in my family.

It is now legal to do so here in canada but you must remain certain for a year.
>>
>>734229575
Such*
>>
>>734229575
Well that sounds fair, getting checked out by a shrink and having a valid medical reason should be part of whether people are allowed to do this.
>>
>>734229828
I agree, it is simply that this criteria can be hard to match depending on your condition.
>>
>>734230038
True.
Anyway this is way more grim than discussing ants.
Let's get more ant questions, answers and trivia in here.
For example leaf cutter ants, don't actually eat the leaves they cut, they use them to fertilize the fungi they survive on.
>>
Not wearing a crown. Not a queen.

>>734225543
maybe, google it
