Go to a pharmacy and buy an 'emergency filling' kit to cover the tooth and keep it clean and safe.
Then find a restoration specialist dentist and go as soon as possible, e.g. Tuesday if need be.

If it is a good dentist, they should NOT grind it down further, they should keep it as is, maybe roughen it very slightly so it will have a good grip surface.
Then they will VENEER it. Ask about that specifically.
You don't want or need a cap, nor should you let them take any tooth away.
Talk to the dentist before - should be a good one, it is worth it for your front tooth.

However, with this dude's problem, he can have the same technique and material used to build the missing section of the tooth.
