Looks like we will get 8 years of Trump. You far left cucks still haven't learned your lesson - bringing politics and virtue signaling into every conversation makes any valid point you may have moot.

Others will just stop listening or vote against the candidate you like when you are that fucking annoying.

>>
>>733922167
Not the guy you replied too, but here's my reason.
You had a great movie, it was scary, the sound effects on point. Honestly speaking I kinda didn't wanna see the protagonist succeed since they weren't anything but symbolism.
That's it:
>muh symbolism
Yeah, the Babadook was the mom's depression, but there was no real confrontation, she didn't get rid of it or surpass it, she merely post ponned it.
I hated the kid, actor was too good, annoyed the living fuck out of me, mom character was also quite dumb.
Also without symbolism they literally ended up with a bloodthirsty Supernatural Entity as a fucking pet.

Sounds like an episode of a comedy-drama called Louie. That episode was called "Untitled".
Really great take on nightmares.
>>
>>733922896
fair enough. the symbolism behind is it the reason I liked it.

it wasn't just her depression, it was her repressed hatred for her son as well. he was annoying as shit, harder to raise than normal, and she blamed him for her husband's death. and she didn't necessarily postpone her feelings, she accepted what it was and learned to live with it.

I'm not sure what Trollhunter is doing on that list, and Lo too.
>>
>>733923064
That's the problem, the movie decided to go for an emotional standpoint instead of a racional one. You have to pick one, either have it actually be a mind controlling actual monster, or have it be all as the mother's emotions. They flip flopped too much.
The Babadook himself, was badass, he was on a mission instead he got cheesed into submition and made into a pet.

>>733923412
I personally think the symbolism would have been better if it didn't come off as so forced.

Do keep in mind these are my cristicisms, they shouldn't affect how either you like or dislike the movie. I'm just sharing my point of view. I have watched ALOT of horror flics, and I thought this one had so much potential to fill out.

The Mist was a good one. I was actually thinking about this a few days ago but when I saw the thread I'm immediately blanking out.

For raw horror, The Mist isn't outright terrifying. But the plot-twist and shit in the end is what made it fucking golden in my opinion.

The Thing is a classic, too, but I don't know if you're wanting classical horror movies, or more modern ones. Don't Breathe was a good thriller-ish movie, for more modern stuff.
>>
>>733924880

All right then, I'm nothing if not open-minded.

Give me some "god tier" horror movies, and I'll give the genre another try.
>>
It's really easy to fuck up a horror movie. It needs to have the right blend, I remember hearing that mama and babadook were "good" horror and as I watched it it got shittier and shittier.
With entity horror the more you see the monster the less scary it becomes but they explained too much of it and you saw too much of it for it to have any lasting effect.

And along with the horror element it's how easy an escape as well it follows wasn't that scary because it boiled down to 'If you got it just travel'. Whereas with the thing or a slasher movie you generally don't know who the fuck it is to begin with
>>
>>733925622
I love that Stephen King preferred the film's ending to the one he wrote.

I agree that The Mist isn't terrifying, but I think it has fantastic atmosphere, and I honestly consider Mrs Carmody to be one of modern horror's great villains.
>>
>>733925428

I wanna argue with you that your taste is shit, but every movie you listed either hits a nostalgia boner, or actually is good with a twist ending.
+1 for Hobo with a shotgun (more for gore than horror)
Also an all time favorite is easily dawn of the dead, and the Exorcist (both the originals. remake of both are pretty shit).
>>733925622
Naw fam Don't breathe was garbage. ending was ok but I didn't give a shit about any of the characters. Not to mention all the characters acted so fucking retarded it was crippling.

>>
Not too scary, but:
"Let The Right One In"
actually made me watch a Swedish non porn film all the way thru.

I guess I appreciate scary type movies that are not just horror nightmare films, there is a distinction that I appreciate as I grew older
>>
>>733925919
I wouldn't say they were the best horror films I've seen, but they resonated enough with me to buy hard copies.

I need to rewatch Hobo with a Shotgun. Rutger Hauer is fantastic as ever, but I have found a new appreciation for Brian Downey and Robb Wells (even though the latter is just a cameo)

>>733926019
Technically the 1982 version isn't the original, it's accurately a remake, but yes I mean that one. I haven't seen the prequel yet, but I do plan to watch it if only because I like Mary Elizabeth Winstead.

>>
>>733926493
The CGI is one of the things putting me off. I'm not saying it's overused in this particular film, but in general I hate the overuse of it in cinema now, and doing a prequel to a film that is famous for its amazing practical effects and using CGI just feels wrong
>>
>>733925747
One of the major things about horror that a lot of people don't realize is that it's subjective. What I find scary you won't. I have the issue with my best friend when I tell him check this flick out, I think you'll like it, and he either completely hates it or just brushes it off.

Generally when going into a horror movie, I don't look at previews/plots/ect beforehand. Maybe I'll read just enough to get the gist of it (is it a creature, ghost, serial killer, ect type of film.)

As loose an adaptation as it is, it is still nonetheless an adaptation. Carpenter's version does also take inspiration from the original film, so yes, it can be and is considered a remake.

My favorite non-mainstream horror movies are almost always ones with big plot twists, and ones that throw a group of characters into terrifying circumstances they can't escape from. I figure most of them are trying to rip off Saw, and they're usually less serious than Saw was.

Would You Rather gets a special mention for having the only time I've seen Sasha Grey in an actual movie.

Circle was ok, but was less horror and more thriller I guess.

Nine Dead was fine, but the twist and ending were pretty shitty.

Exam was good.

>It Follows was not scary in the slightest
That's subjective. To me it was creepy as fuck, mainly because so much of it was just abnormal and unexplained and nonsensical. Some entity, nobody knows what the fuck it is, just follows you until it catches you and kills you, and it can make itself look like people you know, and it just fucking follows you....it always knows where you are, and it's always coming for you, no matter how far away you are. If you fly across the country, you know that it's still coming for you, and you have no idea when it will find you or where it will come from or what it will look like. You can literally never relax or rest or let your guard down because it could be anywhere and anybody. That's fucking terrifying.

No, it's not a remake. It's a new adaptation of the same source, but they did not set out to make a new version of the old movie, they set out to make a new adaptation of the old work.

You might as well call Alice:Madness Returns a remake of those leapfrog Alice in Wonderland games, since they're based on the same source and all.

He's got a point. I enjoyed It Follows because it does so much to leave questions open. From a weird, retro-yet futuristic scenery (The 50s' black and white television, the 70s' fashion and vehicles, but the make-up mirror cell-phone like e-Book whats her face was reading, etc) that doesn't really pinpoint when/where everything is taking place.

The thought of, even if you pass the 'curse' along, it can always backtrack if someone else can't push it through. Meaning you're truly never liberated until death. That's horrifying.

I watched it recently. They had a neat idea, but I feel like they dropped the ball.

Like, the explanation of how the disease works strained my suspension of disbelief. If they'd gone with something like "it's a virus, most people have it, it lies dormant in the speech centers of the brain, and certain words activate it for certain people", while still being unrealistic, would have had me saying "yeah ok" instead of "wait, how the fuck does that make sense?"

>It's really easy to fuck up a horror movie. It needs to have the right blend
>With entity horror the more you see the monster the less scary it becomes but they explained too much of it and you saw too much of it for it to have any lasting effect.
So fucking true. It astounds me that almost nobody seems to grasp this concept.

>how easy an escape
>it follows wasn't that scary because it boiled down to 'If you got it just travel'. Whereas with the thing or a slasher movie you generally don't know who the fuck it is to begin with

It Follows is terrifying for the same reason The Thing is terrifying: you have no idea who or where "it" is. Obviously in The Thing they're trapped so it's a little different, but in It Follows the fact that they aren't trapped almost makes it more horrifying. There's a thing that you know is coming for you, getting closer and closer every moment, no matter how far you go, it is always coming, and you have no idea where it's at or what it looks like, it could be literally anybody, anywhere. How is that not horrifying?

I think basically it boils down to how forgiving you are of the ending. I think it's fair to say it's a pretty well crafted, if somewhat slow horror film with a solid premise that lets itself down with a stupid attempt at a twist.

However, unlike in, say, High Tension, the twist doesn't ruin the film, it's just unnecessary.

Because after the initial shock you can totally predict it. And deflect it too because it follows goes at walking speed so eventually it will catch up but if you for instance drove even 10 miles you probably have 2 days of rest. So that being said you could go to like Vegas for a weekend fuck as many prostitutes as you can handle and you will essentially be free from the "curse". Like if i went to vegas which is a 23 day walk from where I live. Which is more then enough time for a few hookers spread the curse to other people who may or may not also live in Vegas. By the time it's tracked down everyone I probably would have lived a full and content life... Or long died from aids.
