The biggest issue I had with the film is that Ridley Scott is trying to create the next 2001. He can't. He won't. That film is just too damned good. One of the other main problems with these films (Prometheus/Covenant) is that by exploring the history/origin of the key components, you remove the mystery surrounding them, which was one of the franchises strengths. Unless you pull of something visually and thoughtfully _amazing_, then you just dumb down what has helped make the franchise/universe so compelling. Ridley Scott threw a bunch of generic tropey contemporary shit together that anyone could do in 5 minutes, and pooped out some movies to cash in. And it's boring to watch, and it's stupid to watch.
It's as if the people who were writing and producing Star Trek: Voyager were given the Alien franchise.

That's why David loses his shit, he wants to be treated equal but in the eyes of humans and in the eyes of those who created humans he is pond life. He can't reproduce and therefore he isn't deserving of being of considered alive. So he does the next best thing and creates Xenomorphs. That's basically the story.
