a free market exists when government has NOT meddled with it

you don't "create" a free market with a bunch of regulations

look what happened to other markets that the government got involved in: health care... energy... education... every single example ends in over-regulation, government subsidies and market distortion. use your brain... this does not create a free market.
>>
>>733563974
The free market is shit anyway. Left to its own devices, monopolies and high prices begin to spring up. What's "free" about that?

The ISP market is not free. The 1996 telecommunication act paid US ISPs to roll out fiber across the whole country using tax cuts, and they simply pocketed the money.

Local governments have granted local monopolies to ISPs, which stifles competition.

Tennessee, along with many other states, have laws that were written by incumbent ISPs and signed into law that are designed to make it almost impossible to start a new ISP to compete against them.

you're confusing crony capitalism with real capitalism. left to its own devices the free market works, and is the foundation on which the US was built. unfortunately, it's been quite some time since we actually followed free market ideals.

in fact, there is probably more freedom in communist China these days than here in the US. they pretty much leave you alone there! ask any business owner and they will tell you horror stories of how difficult it is to start a business and hire their first employee in the US... unemployment taxes, medicare, health insurance, liability insurance, general insurance, payroll taxes... the list goes on and on...

>Muh free market

There is no such thing as a completely free market. Communism sounds like an utopia on paper, but history has shown us it is anything but

Same with lazzise faire capitalism, sounds good in theory, does not work so well in practice. And fucking China? You know a state consists of more than just the economic part right?

China does not have a free press, freedom of speech or a free internet and a vast majority of the population have miserable lives where they work 16 hours a day only to live in poverty.

"Real" capitalism will eventually become crony capitalism without any checks and balances on it. Hell, the US today is a perfect example of just that, where just about any politician is just another corporate puppet. You call it "donations", but its really just bribes

If the US really are serious about tackling corruption and lobbying in DC they need to make corporate payments/gifts of any kind completely illegal

exactly. that's not free market capitalism, that's a problem created by crony capitalism

take power away from government, stop the monopolies, handouts, subsidies, locked-in markets, and start getting rid of the regulations! open up these markets for competition and consumers will have real choice once again.

the best way to achieve content distribution freedom is to actually make it FREE... not by implementing MORE government control and MORE regulations

even better, just take away the ability for bureaucrats to hand out special favors.

if you do that, then it doesn't matter what kind of payments or gifts are offered because there is nothing for politicians to hand out.

the solution to crony capitalism isn't MORE laws and MORE regulation...

power needs to be taken away from the Federal government, and returned to the people, local governments and local communities

That's not how it works under capitalism. Without the State and currency, sure that's fine. But you're not gonna be a billionaire, kiddo. Or millionaire. You're gonna die poor like the rest of us.
>>

The social programs they've put in place make them pretty socialist

>Yall cucks about to lose net neutrality

Yeah well net neutrality is GOVERNMENT TYRANNY!! In Galt's Gulch, no one get's any website without paying up front!
>>
>>733570079
>Not sure if bait.
>>
>>733570025
No it doesn't. Capitalism is a system that considers the means of production to be private property. Socialism isn't welfare, it's the idea that the employees own business collectively.

You're thinking of welfare.
>>
>>733569882
what's going on is a bunch of dumb old fucks want more control over the populace, yet they fail to understand how the internet is actually structured and how people connect to each other

they can end net neutrality for many people, yes, but that's just because those people are ignorant as to how the internet works, getting around kind of thing they try to track people will be as simple as using a different DNS, they would have to physically track down every DNS server and destroy it, more and more would just crop up everywhere, people could even just have their own since it's just a huge fucking text file

the internet is where (((they))) lose, they could have never anticipated that there would be a system that allowed anyone to talk to anyone at any time all over the world, and now they're scrambling trying to do something about it
>>
>>733570144

That'll be $0.50 for that post, sir. No one else wants to pay for your shitposting on 4chan. Free markets and all that shit.

Underrated
>>
>>733570233
You have no idea what you're talking about. The main focus of socialism is social programs that allow people to benefit society to a greater extent and sensible governmental regulation of businesses.
>>
>>733570274
the people who are trying to control the populace are on both sides, but moreso on the republican. the isp's are fighting for the most influencial control seen yet and they are about to have it.
>>
>>733569932

Yep. This ought to be common sense, but libertarian ideologues don't care about things like evidence and statistics.

youre right. i got so caught up in everything that I forgot what it was all about. why do we argue like this on the internet? the unternet is for fun and learning.
>>
>>733570274
uhhhhhh DNS isn't the problem at hand.....it's the transmission rate of the data from the ISP. Cause once you resolve where to pull Netflix from, but your ISP just got $25M from Hulu, you're gonna have a bad time. Unless you're suggesting we're all connected directly to the Internet, cause then you'd be the one who doesn't understand how the Internet works in 2017.
>>
i don't like goverments making rules. they should do that less. i don't like companies charging me for shit that doesn't cost them anything that they used to give out for free. the barrier to entry is too high to have effective competition for internet service providing especially when anti competitive collusion occurs and all the ISP's move in unison against the consumer

>>
>>733570402
But that's not true. Socialism is about collective ownership of the means of production. The right wing in America used the word to denigrate social programs until people like you were all convinced it was just welfare, so they could cut taxes for billionaires as raise yours.

Social programs don't mean that the market is not capitalist. The market is pure capitalism. The democrats stopped trying to go for some semblance of economic equality and after Reagan just decided to provide welfare instead. See "Reagan Democrats" or "Third Way."

By your standards, Republican Dwight Eisenhower was more socialist than Bernie Sanders. But neither are. They're just demand-side capitalists instead of supply-side.

huh, guess I was wrong
>>
We don't need a new law here. We need to use our old laws and indite them on anti competitive price fixing. Politicians probably want to pass this bill because they are trying to slip in some other shit that they've been bribed for. Rarely does a new law get proposed without some sort of hidden agenda. Perhaps even to fool us into thinking we need new laws to enforce proper capitalistic law even if they are on the books
>>
>>733570402
You need to look in a dictionary
>>
>>733571001
No, socialism boils down to redistribution of wealth and the most effective vehicle for this is taxes and social programs. The government/people doesn't/don't need to be in direct control of the means of production; indirect control via regulation and taxation is preferable.
>>
>>733570726

Ok one example of a place that does what you describe is Denmark. They literally got sick of Sanders calling them socialist and asked him to stop, insisting they have a capitalist market economy.

Collective business ownership is socialism. Government programs for poverty and such are forms of welfare.

This is welfare capitalism. I'm sorry you're wrong anon. Try a dictionary.

>>
>>733571428
No, I don't. Socialism is not welfare. Business ownership and public civics projects are just not something you can equivocate and get away with it. Besides you can't just make up your own definitions. That makes conversation pointless.
>>
>>733572342
It satisfies the defining features of both ideologies. You certainly couldn't call it "free market capitalism"

No, I call it inverted totalitarianism with some welfare to patch the holes. For definition of inverted totalitarianism see

>>733569932
>>
>>733572569

Welfare capitalism recognizes the empirical fact that everyone does better if there isn't a giant population of poor starving unhealthy illiterates next door.
>>
>>733572747
As does socialism, but it attempts to address the problem of why there are poor uneducated idiots everywhere instead of providing band-aids.

I think the problems are worse under socialism though because there will always be a state to fuck it up and get greedy and stuff just like the businesses do. Instead of inverted totalitarianism like we have now they just want totalitarianism.

So I'm ok with welfare capitalism, a la Eisenhower.

Net Neutrality means I or you can begin a video distribution site with the same quality of service as Netflix,Hulu,Amazon or Other because your packets are forwarded to your customers on an equal level as any other packet. Losing net neutrality means Amazon or Netflix can get preferential treatment by your Some, or All of the ISP's because they would pay them to do so. This will cause the number of small business startups on the internet to shrink drastically. Internet packets should all be treated fairly without surcharges, discounts, or other means of variable transmission fairness. Imagine if there were an infinite number of usable radio frequencies in the FM band and stations need not be licensed- there would be a tremendous amount of radio stations available to you and the new cheap FM radios could effectively tune in to Any station anywhere with perfect quality regardless of distance.
The loss of net neutrality is something like altering that system to make radio stations PAY extra to have theirs sound better than the others, forcing small radio stations to begin to cough up cash to pay for better signals where before the change they didn't have to pay anything more than a basic nominal
transmitter, antennae, and the electricity costs to reach everyone who cared to tune in. Losing net neutrality means that they will have to pay an additional amount to ensure a quality signal where before the signal was perfect. It was perfect for all stations, and those stations that wanted to encrypt their signals could charge to listen if they wanted. Those that didn't and those that did had equally perfect signals- now only those stations that pay the Most for the formerly almost free airwaves will have the best signals.

Yes, the internet backbone and internet connections costs money to operate. They already charge enough to be viable and profitable and know how to budget for expansion and still be profitable. One pays to get on the internet usually,

What do you think the end goal of automation and ai is going to lead to? Cause capitalism will result in riots and rebellion as 25 + percent of the workforce is too expensive to employ. And as ai becomes competent you will see skilled jobs start to fail as well. We are already seeing it in the medical and journalist fields.
>>
>>733574685

The big powerful companies don't want to exist in a country full of food riots. There's a lot of push from the private sector in favor of a universal basic income. At least in some quarters.
