Genetically, XX and XY generally produce females and males, while XXY XYY etc are deviations that can have various outcomes. XX and XY sometimes produce a different set of sexual attributes than they normally do.

Attraction, of course, exists on a scale and likely has deep seated biological processes behind it, which is what all these muddleheaded fuckwits meant and should have said.

Sex obviously exists on a spectrum, we have all the evidence for it, including statistical data.

Gender, on the other end, is very much predominantly a binary system, for the human species that is. A very small part of the population, 1% or less, has various sorts of defects, usually genetic in nature, that can somewhat muddy the water. But even for the vast majority of the intersex population, most will display predominantly male or female characteristics. Only a very very very very very small amount of individuals will actually be close to the middle.

So yeah, saying our sexual orientation is a spectrum is quite accurate, since people can go mono-hetero, mono-homo and a fuckload of degrees in the middle. Gender, on the other hand, is always male or female with the odd "sick" individual.

Sex and gender are synonymous with each other, you can't change the meaning of a word just because you want to. There are only two genders.

Now if you met a man who never heard of transgenders, makes no claims to being female, and just likes what he likes; but he likes pink shit, flutters when he walks, collects dolls, sews, works as a nurse and wears pink shirts with hearts on them, he falls on the female spectrum of gender.

No one had to label him, he didnt have to yell in your face about it, nor did anyone have to fight for his rights or condemn him. The simple fact is he does more things that are typically female, so his gender aligns more with female.
