His name was "Bear".
He was 1/2 Black Lab, 1/4 Pit, and 1/4 timber wolf.
Built like a prison boxing champion, but so friendly that his owner had to teach him to growl as a "trick". He would pull the refrigerator door open by a rope on the handle and bring you a beer, and you could tell him to go home to the living room, bedroom, or kitchen and when you got home five hours later he would be in the room you told him to go to. He would stand in the way of toddlers trying to wander off, he would help guide the line horses into the pasture at the end of the day, and sometimes he would walk along with the tour and keep a customer's horse from getting out of line with the tour.

Dogs are intelligent and empathetic. Chickens are not. Humans have been keeping dogs as companions since the very oldest cave paintings we've ever found. Chickens? Not so much. There's one really cute gif of a toddler giving one a hug, but otherwise they're mindless annoying squawkboxes. Dogs will actually try to comfort you when you're feeling bad.

I have a husky lab he's relaxed as fuuuuck. Eager to learn, lots of confidence when I take him out on rugged hikes and terrain (in talking climbing rocks 15ft off the ground and shot where you can barely shimmy across and stuff) never barks always listens. I had a German Shepherd as my main childhood pet. She was gentle as anything with me, but anything that she perceived as a threat to me she'd go into instant defense mode.
