1. turn of the device
2. disconnect all hdd /ssd
3. buy new ones
4. swap them out
5. install new os
6. keep your old storage media safe, until it-specialists release a decryption tool

sorry mate, its all you can do right now

Put linux on a CD and boot from it, then use linux to go into your hardrive and delete the virus files- usually they sit on the hardrive in the same directory as the /program files etc.

It's what I did

Why not just pay?

1 Btc is $1744

The ransom is .2 btc.

Imagine you lived in ancient times and carried a wallet with cash money and family photos in one of those 17 ft expanding plastics.

Now, lets say you "lost" your wallet with a hundred dollars cash in it, plus all your precious photos and various shit you conveniently use in your daily life.

Then, you get a call. "I found your wallet, Mr. Anonymous. You may have it returned for fifty cents."

You claim to have almost a hundred thousand bucks on your computer. That sure was stupid of you, huh? You could have kept that shit spread out on a few different secure, removable devices.

Even better, you could have gotten ubuntu for your operating system.

>Then, you get a call. "I found your wallet, Mr. Anonymous. You may have it returned for fifty cents."
except nobody who has paid the ransom so far has been given a decryption key.
moreover, there is no reason for the scammers to give you a key: once you send the money, it's gone.
plus, every dollar the scammers receives supports their efforts, giving them all the more reason to dupe more idiots with wannacry2.0

why? because you think copypasta won't show up on other boards, including 4chan, and thus be found by their spiders?
you must be even more retarded than I originally proposed... let me laugh at you some more!!!
.
ok, I'm sure you're so retarded, you still won't get it, so let me break it down for your retarded ass:
copypasta is pasta not just because it is copy-pasted, but because it is relentlessly copypasted across multiple boards and the relentless pasting gets picked up 97% of the time by google spiders, even shit that shows up on 4chan... yes, 4chan.
.
now let me laugh at you some more!

>>
>>732760851
>would it know it was ai in a program running in a vm?
yes, lots malware is already VM-aware and responds differently (well-behaved so you don't detect it) when it detects it's inside a VM.
https://blog.malwarebytes.com/threat-analysis/2014/02/a-look-at-malware-with-virtual-machine-detection/
it becomes a cat-and-mouse thing with VM makers trying to beat the malware, but the VM makers are always handicapped because they are not only in battle with malware authors,
they are in battle with legitimate software makers.
the company that makes the LOCKDOWN browser (a browser commonly used in universities) also spends its resources detecting virtual machines because the lockdown browser 'needs to know this' if it is to prevent test-taking-fraud.
whatever your opinion of online courses, these folks are big in that field and spend lots of resources detecting VMs... once they figure it out, it's a matter of time before their intel gets leaked to malware authors... plus other developers do the same thing too
>>
>>732761119
What if a person builds a new type of virtual machine that cannot be detected by the current methods?
>>
>>732761119

So what you say is.... have an extra hd, and keep it unplugged. Once in a while, plug it in and copy your new files to it, then unplug again. Could work, but would people take the time and effort to do so?
>>
only things you can do OP:
1. shut down your machine, remove the HDD
2. standby: wannacry is so widespread there is a good chance a key will be found in the next few days (at least compared to lesser known ransomware)
but what you should not do is:
1. pay: not only will you get nothing, you'll encourage them to fuck others in the future
2. run your machine: even one minute. sometimes encryption is not complete and you might be able to save some files, but the longer your OS is running, the sooner the chances of recovery approach zero. in other words, the chance may still be greater than zero if you shut down your OS and remove the HDD.

once a solution is found:
the afflicted HDD will probably not be plugged into a windows system, but into a linux-type system (something that won't have the same vulnerabilities as the windows box that was hit) and recovery can begin.

>>732757673

>>
>>732760816
Virtual machines are *supposed* to be virtual, but theoretically they could have security holes as well, or the machine running the virtual machines could be compromised. In this case though, there are no reports on WannaCry breaking out of VMs, and in practice VMs have provided a strong added layer of security.
>>
>>732761356
What if a person builds a program that sits, waiting for you to plug in that sexy clean fully backed up hard drive, and then BAM, encrypts both of em. Get reked brah game over
>>
>>732757673
>50 bitcoins

>t. retard
>>
>>732761290
>What if a person builds a new type of virtual machine that cannot be detected by the current methods?
then the malware/ai whatever won't detect it... in the meantime... but it might employ a heuristic to do so in the future, especially since anyone who figures such things out stands to make lots of money from selling such zero-day exploits to companies like LOCKDOWN.

>>732761356
>So what you say is.... have an extra hd, and keep it unplugged. Once in a while, plug it in and copy your new files to it, then unplug again. Could work, but would people take the time and effort to do so?
no need to be so complicated: just get a NAS that runs linux for the price of a HDD plus 20 bucks. Hell, even one of those WIFIs with NAS-capable usb ports can do the trick.
but no solution is perfect: if your WIFI-NAS becomes popular enough (but that's unlikely) someone could find a way to fuck with it...

in short, anything is fuckable with if it's popular enough

I just read in the news a few days ago about how some fag used a kill switch to stahp le hackor fag with a mass virus

>>
>>732761940
It's the wanacry worm that was going around. It used an exploit in older windows system to execute code remotely. Unfortunately, you don't have to do anything to get infected by this. It works by scanning the network for vulnerable boxes. There was supposedly a kill switch integrated in the worm by the creators that someone found while studying it. It just pinged an unregistered domain and if it got a response the binary closed. So that guy just registered the domain and this virus is no longer a threat.
