Besides the obvious like cave-ins, toxic gasses can build up/be trapped in mines that have been abandoned and are no longer ventilated. Also bats often live in mines, so you could rabies, or more likely some other disease through contact with their guano.

Hydrogen sulfide smells like rotten eggs but you don't smell it for very long as it disables your sense of smell as it kills you. You probably wouldn't encounter it in a non-coal mine to my knowledge unless it's a product of volcanic activity. It mostly occurs as a by product of the decay of organic matter. Particularly in low oxygen environments iirc.
A lot of the dangerous shit has no warning signs unless you have a meter. Backdamp or accumulations of various gases such as natural gas (naturally occurring without odorant as mentioned), CO or CO2. Some are flammable in the right mixtures.

you can walk in to the large cave about 50-70m, then it goes into much smaller mine entrances. havent been back to the mine entrances in a long time, main hazard is falling rocks in the huge open area. you can probably go forward for an hour before you need a rope... there are smaller cave entrances near it, but you couldn't pay me to squeeze into one
