Im sorry for you OP but this is legit.
This is a ransomware. You better pay directly if you're not sure that you can work around it.
As soon as you recover your files, get e backup and copy it on a new hard drive that you physically separate from your computer.

M$ released a patch for this in March, so if you are getting updates you are safe.

If you are running windows without updates, then it could happen to you.

And you can get infected just by being connected to the internet, there's no need to open email attachments or anything else, the worm will test random IP addresses looking for a machine that can be infected.

Fellow Anons. Do you have files in your computers worth 300 bucks? I sure don't.
>>

If you really do have this. Your fucked lol. Pay or get a new device. Unless you know what your doing, and you have the computing power to do decrypt it, your fucked.
Everyone in the world is playing with devices they know nothing about. Myself and people like me, we control the world people submerge themselves in. I can hop an air gap, pass firewalls, find/copy/spoof certificates, cover my tracks, and cause havoc. I, personally, do NOT do this though. I make money off of trying to protect people from this. But not poor broke jokes like you.

I doubt it. I keep the app closed. Unfortunately this is a worm that takes advantage of an exploit discovered/used by the NSA that lets it install itself on you computer without your knowledge and without you needing to do anything else than turn on your machine.

It then encrypts your files in the background and when it has a sufficent ammount of it securley locked down it will notify you that you will not be able to obtain these file again if you don't pay up.

Oh yeah, and to put the icing on the cake it also removes any and all standard restore/backup files it can find. It is really quite nasty.
>>
>>732476169

>>
>>732482394
Uncertain... a good firewall should stop this in it's tracks, but usually people port forward way too much and/or place a computer in a DMZ which bypasses the entire firewall in the router. If the worm manages to get to that computer it is inside the LAN and it has then free reign to all the devices behind the router.

If it's not on the binary level, you could theoretically just do a hard analysis of the data and reverse engineer any data that was encrypted. You would need a second computing device for this, and probably a couple live machines to keep from infection.
>>
>>732483532
Firewalls don't stop real attackers. Let's be honest

I finally get to make my first 4chan post after over a decade of lurking. You are fucking stupid as fuck if you got infected. If you kept your Windows up to date, this would have never happened. I hope you get fucked OP, because only retards of the highest degree get infected by anything.

>>732483352
I primarily use linux x64 and am an ifag with an iP7, my router is on open-source cfw and I use a secondary firewall on my linux machine with default rejection of incoming and outgoing ports, ipv6 disabled, and some kernel hardening as per the Lynis security auditing application.

How fucked am I?

Yes, you should try reading a book.
An example of binary encryption would be: using a RNG or PRNG to randomly encrypt each bit. If using a PRNG it is not totally secure (neither is a RNG, but that's a whole other discussion, because nothing is TOTALLY safe), a PRNG is easily calculated.

It doesn't encrypt your files. All it does is open up files and add a 1 or whatever at the beginning of the file. Winblows tries to open the file and that extra character throws it off and it doesn't know what to do with the file.

It's pretty basic malware and easy enough to fix. To remove it, typically check your startup folder and Scheduled Tasks. Typically they hide something in one of those two areas to reinstall the malware if you remove it. It will tell you exactly where the malware is located, then just delete the tasks and the files and that part is done.

Then get a backup of an image or file and compare it to the screwed up file using a hex editor (or notepad). Find the difference, then write a batch file to remove the extra character(s) from all your files, problem solved.

Next, quit using Winblows to check email, surf the web, and jerk off to porn. Use Winblows to download torrents and run Steam. Then get a Chromebox/book to do everything else, because you'd have to be a complete moron to to get a virus on one of those.

0day exploits are fact of life. If anything, this should show the reach of the NSA's and CIA's abilities. If the current infection is of any indication, those systems were likely compromised months and years ago. Unfortunate that it had to be weaponized but still has some benefits.

You base that off what, you fucking retard? It isn't hard to encrypt files. If you are smart enough to infect a ton of computers with exploits you can EASILY encrypt some fucking files with password/key.

Have you ever heard of the OSI model?
Binary encryption takes place on level 1 of the OSI model (because you are formatting the bits, which is level 1)
When other encryption methods for data can be done at level 6 of the OSI model.
Which is also why a lot of encrypted data can be reveresed engineered

Layer 6 on the OSI model... why not be satisfied with layer 4 which is where TLS resides so you can have that little shiny green lock up there on the left of you address bar.
Even thoug it is over the "bitlayer" it still scrambles the fucking bits that are sent in a way that makes it unreadable for the eavesdropper.

For wifi: wpa2 enterprise with a freeradius server running on an overclocked cfw router is probably my favorite security measure I've implemented, but this is less about paranoia as I'm interested in becoming a security researcher and am kind of enthusiatic with relatively hardcore security measures, despite not actually needing to protect %99.999 of my data.

>Why would they go through all the trouble encrypting? Takes time and processing power and for what,

It's processing power that's someone else's machine, who gives a fuck? Especially if you are fucking their machine over anyway. The reason to actually encrypt the files is to ensure that you completely fuck over every machine that gets the virus and you force them to pay.

DNScrypt is good, but that blocking of android phoning home is only good while you are behind some router that you control. You connect it to a mast and it will happily phonehome as much as it want.

Check out LineageOS and microG if you are really serious about privacy.

Kek, are you a network admin? Cause you sound like one. You fucks think you know about cracking but you don't know shit. And why the fuck would I rely on layer 4 encryption when an attacker can still do a hard analysis?
Security is no longer just what we can see, or just basic security standards. Everything can be cracked into.
have u heard about using sonic frequencies to hop air gaps through a devices speakers and mic? Prob not cause your just a low level network admin.

And layer 6 is where most data is formatted for encryption.

You didn't even understand what an RNG OR PRNG is, that is the most basic form of bit encryption. But whatever, I just pull shit off forums so....
