The studies show that it increases the likelihood in those already at risk of mental illness. Your average user isn't at risk, and even if they were that doesn't stop people drinking despite liver damage, driving despite car accidents or eating fast food despite heart disease. Nothing wrong with them changing their hair and clothes if they wanted, that's just your issues with their choice in style talking and is hardly an argument against smoking.

As for people studding less, have you thought about how many people who didn't smoke weed did the same? I know plenty of people who just got sick of institutionalized education and basically gave up mid way through, and that was nothing to do with pot. Even if it was, you could again argue cause/effect; they started caring about school less, so they started smoking. It can go both ways.

As far as schizophrenia, the research on this looks to be very young and i doubt you could say that there is a direct causal link between smoking marijuana and becoming schizophrenic. I started at 11 and quit regularily smoking last year at 20. Ive been clean from pot for about 6 months. My experience is that people who smoke before 18-20 have similar a thing i did with weed were they realize they hate the way it feels and just hate being high in general. People who start smoking after they turn 20 typicly do it more in moderation and get somthing positive out of it. I wish i had started smoking later in life but im kind of glad Im soured on drug culture now. Drug culture is the only personality trait of so many people i know and its all they talk about or know, and i know more about drugs than anyone i know already so the topic i get nothing out of talking to them. I started smoking at 14. My friends and I smoked religiously every Friday and Saturday night, but rarely during the week if we weren't on vacation. Messed around with hallucinogens from time to time in high school too. Call me pretentious, but I was lucky to have friends that were smart. We never really got into "stoner culture," and just did the stuff we normally did whether we smoked or not. We spent a lot of time making fun of the stereotypical burnouts in high school. Then I went to college at a corny, whitewashed SUNY school and EVERYONE was obsessed with "dude, weed man" culture. Everybody seemed very immature, but I guess that was because they were just getting into the stuff I had been doing for years. Now I'm 23 and smoke a couple times a month with my reals, buy a bag probably once or twice a year. I'm happy with that, but avoid stoners like the plague.

People can have different reactions but there's also just a huge issue with lack of standardisation and consistency on testing levels of chemicals in cannabis.
You can get the same "strain" from two different sources and have them have completely different balances of chemicals from genetic variation and growing conditions but you could even literally wind up with a completely different strain because the cutesy common names are assigned pretty much at whim or through some obvious phenotype like colour or scent.
Luckily this is changing more as legalisation spreads and companies are really starting to enter into the market.

It's not just thc in there and for anxiety you'd actually want less of that and more of some of the other cannabinoid compounds. There are strains bred for children with neurological disorders that are focused on NOT getting you high but maximising some of the other medically significant cannabinoids.

We used to do our own homegrown weed with a roommate, but now he left the premises and I have to get my shit through Tor, pay with bitcoins and go pick it up on location, while being constantly batshit scared of it being a scam.
