but malwarebytes doesn't close any security holes in the os itself. if you're connecting a windows xp machine to the internet you're pretty much predestined to get attacked at some point.

You don't need a 0-day to exploit XP. There's so many vetted exploits. Literally type in Google, "xp rce".

You know, you can be hacked, do you?

Xp is easy to hack using exploits. You shouldn't tell if you're using xp.
>>
>>732073836
>so virtually everyone is at risk bcause theres always newly undiscovered shit outhtere?
that is why you should have an up to date OS.
to fix these unlocked doors.

99.9% of the time, antivirus programs only stop the stupid user from installing known malware.
>>
OP was not a faggot today. Instead, he's a God.

I used XP until I had to upgrade...to Windows 7. Thanks to XP awesomeness I was able to skip the Hellish nightmare that was Vista, completely. I'm now using Win7 on both my desktop and notebook, and have zero interest in jumping to 10 until I have to.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. My shit runs smoothly and cleanly, and I'm not about to fuck with it.
>>
what browser does OP use?
IE hasn't been updated in years
chrome wont update (or install?) on XP
firefox will stop updating by the end of the year

Me too actually..

(as a coder every other time a customer needs a tool to run on 32bit xp in fact one runs a CNC router with it LOOOL... some things you cannot make up...)

Anyways, I run four different Windows versions on three different computers, and two Linux distros as well as one copy of macos 10

The only machine up 24/7 is the xp box,
(lDK just got used to that thing in all these years)
>>
>>732073836
No, the fact you're using XP and the whole Internet knows how to abuse XP to get data, and since there are no security updates to change which exploits are used you are vulnerable as soon as you click a site that knows all the XP proof hacking gimmicks.
>>
>>732073930

>>
>>732070137
nothing wrong with that. I spun up a win98SE box a few months ago and used it as my main computer for a few days to see how it went.

aside from finding decent compatible browsers and some issues with higher res displays nothing terrible happened.

disconnect router
directly connect windows XP/win98 directly to the modem.

just wait a few mins.

https://www.shodan.io/search?query=os%3AWindows+XP&language=None#

i like to google known passwords to routers/modems/ipcams
then go to this site (shodan.io)
and then search for these devices
then login to said devices
then sometimes i like to change the wifi passwords and then change the routers password.
just for the lulz

yeah, I remember those days too. but that was when you hooked up a 56k modem straight to your machine and had the raw internet pumped into you.

turns out having a firewall at the router with no open ports prevents pretty much all the common attacks on win98.

that means it's a virus that you wouldn't be able to detect normally, and have no chance in getting rid of. I agree with the anon talking about linux. It's saved a few laptops I've had that couldn't even properly run with windows with how bogged down it is, but were working just great with them. Normally I am against linux fags, but you don't have many choices in staying safe on that laptop.

Only way to do that would be to delete system 32. It's honestly really outdated at this point and by removing it you'll get rid of a lot of the vulnerabilities your system faces. It's really easy to do and should actually speed things uo a fair bit.
