Anyone in a major coastal city, or even one of the middle of the country large cities, will have access to at least decent internet (50mbps+)

I had 150/150mbps for 2 years but I was noticing slow downs when multiple people were streaming or downloading at the same time.

with 1gbps, I haven't had any issues.

also its likely that your getting bottlenecked somewhere in the network. for the current infastructure to go gigabit speeds it needs to be NBN all the way down otherwise you just crap out.

6027 on nbn here but they cheated and used cable. most nbn users are either on cable or vdsl. speedtest shows about 80mbps but it's abit of a con as the providers somehow fake the speed. If I do actual file transfers to a local server on a gigabit trunk, I get abour 13mbps which is still better than my previous 3mbps adsl2+

I even have the availability of 2gbps here in the US.

But it's $50 more a month than my current 1gbps, and it requires ~$1000 in upfront install costs.

And on top of that, you're still limited to 1gbps speeds unless you upgrade all your network equipment to 10GbE NICs and switches, or you wait for the 2.5 and 5GbE ethernet specification next year to come out.
