Tf2 before cosmetics became the most important thing

If I want to play a skill-less game like the Sims, where you can put new clothes and hats on your characters, I'd go with Team Fortress 2.

If, on the other side, I want a competitive game, based on teamwork and strategy combined wih Moba aspects, I'll go with Overwatch.

Team Fortress 2 is just popular because people love collecting useless cosmetic shit.

Tf2 has got stale as fuck and hasn't had a decent update since mvm.

I like both of them, but with Overwatch being more modern and having more support, I play it more.

Overwatch

The active development of the game like new characters and balance changes keep the game interesting. That, and there is a lot more variety to the game.

I miss the old days before hats became the norm and you could join a random server, chill out while playing and feel satisfied win or lose. But those days are long gone.

I feel like a lot of the characters of Overwatch have a strong personality. The difference from TF2 is that TF2 character personalities were comically exaggerated, which makes them stand out more, While Overwatch has a wide variety but tries to play it straight.

Maybe if you're talking about the original Team Fortress game, which actually required some skill to be good at. But saying that TF2 requires more skill than Overwatch is complete nonesense.

Valve stopped giving a shit about TF2 when it went f2p, and when they started to make the game easier and easier so they could sell more skins and battlecrates through microtransactions.

They literally said it themselve, that they made more money wih TF2 micro-transactions than they did by selling any of their game. They didn't even hide the fact that they made the game more casual in order to attract more new players and get them hooked to the hats/skins stuff.

Blizzard clearly tried to make Overwatch as hard and competitive as possible, so it could be a good esports game. Don't forget the fact that Blizzard created Starcraft 2, which the hardest skill-based RTS game available on the market. They don't make casual games, period.

For the most part the characters in TF2 don't REALLY deviate from their role.

The only real exception that I can think of is Demoknight. Every other item/build merely changes the way the character performs their main role. Like Scout is never not a close-range hit-and-run character.
