Rick and Morty goes for the same approach as MGS:3 in tackling the limits of it's genre. People struggle to take cartoons seriously, so it hides it's deeper points among a flood of childish, dumb gags. The over saturation of the campier elements means the audience is forced to suspend their disbelief, meaning the more poignant stuff shines through.
