It's a cool spring night as you walk in, the sound of bugs in the grass behind the station is dull compared to the vibrant neon hum of the sign which has it's word light up individually in a sequence. As you step in it's noticeably still. And as you step through the little aisles you can hear the gurgle of a coffee maker as steam rises from the dark pot. You give a five to the worker and he nods as you head back out into the cool air. Wind hitting you, dry desert air as you head back to your car and start to pump it with gas. Other cars sparsely passing, and the occasional 18 wheeler as the meter clicks and you get back in, the door closing makes everything warmer as you start it up. Ding ding, you sleepily put your seatbelt on and get back to the road...Journey's almost done... you look to your left at the passenger seat. Empty, and so you head out feeling a little off beat...It's lonliness, Anon.. and it makes you see everything a little more beautiful. Even a gas station in the middle of nowhere.
>>731757821
This is on the western coast, so you could either travel to Bergen or Stavanger and rent a boat, and just go wherever you want. You'll find places worth visiting all over the place, and you're rarely more than 30 minutes from the nearest harbor.
Most of the Norwegian coast is pretty much the same though, so you're good either way.

While we have plenty of untouched nature as well, you'll often find ruins or traces of civilization here and there, as people have been living and farming here for thousands of years.

This one is going out to you
It's almost midnight in Eastern Standard Time.
I've got a few in me yet.
For me its the opposite. I hate the night. Its when i get comfortable being depressed and sad. I end up just wallowing in my loneliness. Tide after tide washes over me as the night seeps through my cracks, eventually drowning me in my medicated sleep at 3 in the morning. But once i get up, i can finally see the sun and be reborn into not a failure, not a disappointment, not someone undeserving of love, but as a person thats in charge of there own destiny, that can try their best to enjoy the daylight before the moon creeps over the horizon once again.

Anyways, that cliffside they run along in the end, that's how the forest looks around here.

The cool thing is that for a lot of places, once you reach forests, it's straight forests forever.

Yeah, but it's probably been 15 years. Love the theme from that movie.
I've watched a bunch of Les Stroud's stuff and various other documentaries, so I've gotten a decent impression of what the Canadian wilderness looks like. I think a lot of American movies set in the wilderness are also filmed in Canada. As I mentioned earlier, it seems bigger and wider than in Norway. Things just seem to stretch on forever, while Norway has more peaks and valleys.
Also, if you want to watch a bizarre TV concept from Norway, take a look at "Slow TV": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXMtC8Kj-sQ

Tangent story time
When I was a kid, my pop took me out fishing once
We were in the middle of fucking no where
On the dirt path we were driving we passed by a cow carcass. It was being swarmed by turkey vultures.
We got out of the car not long after that and while waking through the woods, we saw something coming down a hill through the trees.
My dad stops me and says "Wow, look at that! It's a bear!"
We stand in the trail watching this bear come down the hill breaking through ferns and shit.
I'm nearly pissing my pants but my dad is all impressed by the wilderness.
The bear passes and then we go fishing.

Nostalgia, but, the sad inexpressible side of it. The bit where all the wistful yearning and longing is.
When I was 8 my family was given 60 days notice to pack our shit, find a new home and to gtfo.
It was hard but we got by.
New house, no children in this neighborhood, parents decided to homeschool us, no friends.
Had my older brother though. Funniest guy in the world, smart, always made everything fun and happy. Things were never glum with him around. Rainy days were actually the most fun and we'd go splash and run around together.
When I was 11 the house we had found burnt down, they said my brother accidentally did something with a magnifying glass and he felt terrible so don't ever mention the fire to him.
we lost most of our possessions and my dad spent all his time working to keep us indoors.
I never understood what happened, but my brother stopped smiling as much. Didn't talk or make jokes like he did before. Didn't see him as much.
I was 13 when he committed suicide.
These pictures remind me of my life before those things happened.
I miss desperately my old neighborhood. Exploring and playing with my brother, riding bikes, walking in that creek, when our only worries were when it was getting dark.
When all was peaceful, and the cruelty and harshness of the world hadn't yet touched the innocent child that I used to be.
Still miss you Nicolas, I'll never forget the fun we had or that laugh.

Never seen a bear in the wild. We do have plenty of them, but most of them are inland, far from civilization.
I've seen plenty of deer and foxes though. I live in a suburb that's within walking distance of the nearest city, but my house is on the top row of a series of houses built along a mountain, so the entire mountain is my backyard. I occasionally see deer walking around here, and have seen them jump out right in front of me when going for a walk (about 2-3m ahead of me). When they run by you so close, you really get a sense of their weight and power.
I took a picture of a deer in my backyard last year, but I can't find the memory card it's on.

I don't mean to belittle you, but you are impressed with deer?
I've come face to face with 2000 lb moose ( I think you call them elk)
I guess it is more wild over here
I've lived in urban cities and had to deal with deer showing up in my backyard.
The house I grew up in, we had to deal with porcupines.
Not a real problem, but they liked to chew on our steps. I've heard they like to chew on treated wood because it gets them high
Whatever the real reason, they always chewed on these same steps
We had to chase them away with a broom. They can't really run fast and they're really reluctant to try on account of their fucking spines.
Thankfully our dogs only got spiked once
Lovely pup
Most dogs when hurt will hide
But when we came home and found him all pricked up, he came to us asking for help
Rode with him to the vet

When you're going for a walk up the trail behind your house, and a deer suddenly jump out right in front of you and runs off, then yes, that leaves an impression.
The biggest problem I have with them is that they spread ticks everywhere.
>I've come face to face with 2000 lb moose
Please. Moose don't weigh a literal ton. As I said, we do have moose and bears, but they tend to stay away from coastal areas, and live inland. Deer and foxes are the most exotic animals you're likely to see along the coast.
