Because Americans are categorically the stupidest fucking country in the world, even taking into account countries where they can't even figure out how to use a toilet and resort to shitting in the street instead. At least they're a never ending source of laughs for the rest of us.

There was a separate bill passed unanimously by the House ensuring that everyone who voted for this bill WILL be affected if it ever does pass. Emphasis on "if" since the bill will be completely revised in the Senate if Republicans want to pass it.

>>
>>731551522
The common opinion now is that senate will revise and send it back down, and this process will repeat until kinks have been worked out.

I think it's extremely likely that Republican leadership and DJT will lean hard, and they'll pull the 50 yea votes they need for Pence to tie-break it into law.

You heard it here first.

>>
>>731551849
Oh god no, it's an awful law written by trash people. And whatever they end up with will be awful. I know who is in power.

But even the soulless Republican senators know that after today, all eyes are on them. And with bad CBO scores, low public opinion, and every camera in journalism pointed at them, several will feel pressure to mount revisions. These revisions, if they come (again, I think they'll just push this abortion of a law through) will be minor, popular concessions the make moderate republicans at least content.

The entire system needs an overhaul, top to bottom. That won't happen, though, because the people who benefit from it won't allow it.

I'm thankful now that me, as someone who is young, healthy, and doesn't really have a major need for health insurance, will not have to pay $750 a month for a premium for a plan we barely use.

I have to pay more so that conditions like "transexualism, obesity, bulimia, anorexia, seasonal affective disorder, acid reflux, heart burn, and sexual deviation or disorder" can be paid for?

And the sheer amount of people on medicaid in my state baffles me. I see these people all the time (i'm a doctor, my clinic accepts medicaid for now). The number of people who are on medicaid and shouldn't be is staggering.

I don't deserve it. I have parents that can pay for it or else have the coverage provided to them which is provided to me.

I forgot that I have spent 7 whole days in a hospital bed. I've had morphine drip and been handed bottles of 50mg vicodin like it was candy. I've had a blood transfusion. Trump sure as shit did. He repeatedly boasted about replacing obamacare with something where everyone would be covered, their premiums would be lower, and the cost of the program would be lower. And it would be super-easy to do this.
The real question is why are people so deluded that they continue to support Trump when he announces "who knew healthcare could be so complicated?" and proceeds to propose a plan where tens of millions of people would lose coverage and everybody except the wealthy would be paying more. And this is par for the course on everything. Yet these morons still believe he's wonderful.
>>
>>731567356

>>
>>731566479
>how did you get fucked exactly?

Obamacare specifically outlawed interstate competition which, in turn, created the insurance monopolies that exist today and raised everyone's premiums anywhere from 30-100%. Yes, premiums literally doubled in some areas and the federal government watchdog groups are in charge of stopping monopolies, not creating them like he did. Anything trump is doing now is trying to clear up the nuclear waste that obama left behind on purpose.
>>
>>731568247
>you aren't even sick faggot you are just bitching
The point is that we all get sick eventually and we'll all accept healthcare when it happens. Hospitals won't refuse a dying patient. We end up paying for it eventually, whether it's through higher premiums, taxes to fund government-provided healthcare, or watching healthcare providers go bankrupt and shut down. You faggots who cry about healthcare not being a right are ignoring the fact that it basically is. We'll all need it, we'll all get it. The problem now isn't who SHOULD get it, the problem is how do we pay for it knowing that everyone is going to get it anyway. And you faggots who have already drawn millions of dollars out of the system and are now trying to shut that system down are the most hypocritical shitheads around.

>>
>>731569186
lmao you have paid nothing you idiot. you have paid for the (shitty) healthcare that you have received and my healthcare has been provided through insurance and coverage offered to my parents because they work hard. and I am grateful for this.. to them... not to random fuckos on the internet who think that every illegal should get a transplant and an MRI when they drink or smoke themselves into oblivion because muh America.

I was 16 when I developed a benign tumor mass. I didn't cause that myself my body did. And my parented were able to pay for that thru coverage because they WORK HARD. unlike you and your lazy parents.. or maybe your parents aren't lazy they are just stupid and unaccomplished. I don't know forsure
None of this changes the fact that healthcare is not a right.. at no point in time was it ever a right.. and it won't be a right anytime soon.
>>
>>731569319
I never said they double for everyone, don't try to play semantics when I clearly said 30-100%, far higher than any natural inflation based on normal market forces. If you want to know which states specifically, google it, South Carolina was one, North Carolina, Georgia, West Virginia. There's literally 1 provider in their entire "marketplace." That after that black bozo said people would have MORE choice.
>>
>>731568663
Also with the creation of the Health Insurance Marketplace, they introduced the Advance Payment of the Premium Tax Credit, or the APTC, which would in turn lower one premiums to the point where their premiums would be drastically lower, if not taken care of entirely if they were to fall into a certain set of parameters. Not only that, but there were also cost sharing reductions implemented in as well that could allow one to have lower deductibles, lower out of pocket maximums, and liwer copayments/coinsurances. That is always one key factor Trumptards like to leave out. And when they complain about the monopolizing of insurance companies in certain given areas from the Marketplace? That is due to THE INSURANCE COMPANY BACKING OUT. They will retract themselves at will from the Marketplace to where they can continue charging their consumers full price without a tax credit. And you know who is nostril deep in Trump's ass because this destruction of the ACA will benefit them and fill their pockets, despite the ethical reprecussions of the matter? The insurance companies. These people would say the world on fire if they knew it would make them richer than they already are. And you're jumping in that fire at will, telling yourself it's a good idea and it all makes sense. Don't be too shocked when they charge you out the ass to treat your burns when you get them.

The bottom line is 20 million uninsured people were brought into the fold on the backs of all the other citizens who had to, now, pay for their premiums as well while they continued to not contribute to the system. Say you've got a boat with a 80 person capacity. You get 80 on then cram another 20 on top of that and the shit sinks (or at the very least doesn't float as well). This is precisely what obamacare has done to the US and there's no reason for those of us working, busting our asses should see an increase in premiums just to cover some jagoff we don't even know. Plain and simple. You and they can go fuck themselves and pay their own way and stop trying to reach into my pocket like a bunch of faggots.

But god forbid, not your trust fund! This is not a political matter. This IS a matter of life and death for some people. Just because it doesnt affect you personally doesn't mean it doesn't exist. The political right always has a problem with gaining a sense of perspective for any matter that comes their way of it doesn't affect them personally. If it doesn't affect their day to day life, then who fucking cares. Beautiful logic. And your stance toward this matter, call it realist if you want, borderlines on sociopathic and you calling it whatever you like doesnt change that.

You'll be paying more for less coverage, if you can afford it at all.

The only ones who save money here are rich people and those who forgo coverage completely.

from wikipedia:
>>The Hippocratic Oath is an oath historically taken by physicians. It is one of the most widely known of Greek medical texts. In its original form, it requires a new physician to swear, by a number of healing gods, to uphold specific ethical standards. Of historic and traditional value, the oath is considered a rite of passage for practitioners of medicine in many countries, although nowadays various modernized versions are often used; the message delivered is still the same: do no harm permanently.
from the original translation:
>>I will use treatment to help the sick according to my ability and judgment, but never with a view to injury and wrong-doing. Neither will I administer a poison to anybody when asked to do so, nor will I suggest such a course.
>>the oath does contain Latin: ... noxamvero et maleficium propulsabo (Also ... I will utterly reject harm and mischief)
>>
>>731573054
>Politics don't belong in the classroom
I disagree. While in hs, it is clearly unprofessional but in college you either have the ability to distinguish political bias from your professor at a certain point or you are not fit to be there in the first place.

>certainly not in a programming course for fucks sake!
This on the other hand is where I completely agree. Just creates tension and does not have anything to do with the toppic taught.

>How did he actually manage to become a professor without learning to keep his opinions to himself?

What the fuck is the concern? Senate Republicans already indicated they're not going to bother bringing this bullshit to a vote. It's dead. Listen dude, you keep going on your own happy way complaining about immigrants being economic parasites, while being a jobless college student that is being an economic parasite off your own parents yourself. You lack perspective, and it's not your fault. You were sheltered, you had it easy, I guess that's not something to knock someone about. But you do lack a sense of irony about your economic status and this given situation, and that's something. My stance on this matter is that I would rather have 20 million people from whoeverthefuckcares leeching off the system and the taxes I actually pay myself woth my own money rather than hear that a child or family perishes because health insurance make it a fucking dog and pony show to even get coverage. So keep on doing your rich kid happy delusion thing you're so good at. But I have a suggestion for you for future reference, how about you complain about the foreigners emptying your pockets when you actually have a job and are not leeching off someone yourself. I don't want to hear about how Trump is "inherently a better choice because he's not a career politician" when we're supposed to be discussing pointer variables or identifying minerals in thin sections under a microscope.

However naive you may believe it is to not want want bias from your instructors you should understand that people attend these educational institutions expecting the teachers to at least TRY to present facts in an objective manner.

That principle is important, when a student is admitted it's typically based on their grades and whatever other factors admissions determines to be important, your opinion that students should be able to identify bias in situations where it shouldn't be presented anyway is both irrelevant and condescending, do you really think that from a more subtle professor that even you would be capable of noticing it 100% of the time?

The penalty was a flat rate of $695 ler adult if no coverage is had by said person for 12 consecutive months of the given year. It will be lessened if you don't have coverage for part of the year, and it calculated based on the months you did not have coverage. And you can apply for an exemption, where you fill out an application to the IRS or the FFM (or SBM in certain areas) and it determines if you dont have to pay the fee at all. It's just that everyone that complains about the fee have either lied on their Marketplace application and the tax credit discrepency is coming back to bite them in the ass, were misinformed on the subject (which would not be done by any reputable organization worth half a shit), or too dumb or lazy to see if there were ways to get said exemption and ultimately shot themselves in the foot. The ACA just makes an amazing scapegoat for Americans not knowing what they're talking about or wanting to have literally everything done for them without it requiring any effort on their part.

Why isn't healthcare a right, though? Surely if you work and pay taxes in this country, you and your family can be provided with the means to get medical care so you can continue to work and live at a reasonable cost? Why would you not think so? If you pass out on the street today with a heart attack and you wake up in a hospital bed and leave with a hundred thousand dollars of debt, is that fair?

While I absolutely do not want to jump onto the "muh priviledge"-train, I just want to say that many people would consider this indeed quite rich, as it already falls roughly around the top 8% of the distribution.

Many people in this range does not consider themself rich. But as someone with such income myself (which grew up as a poorfag): please consider yourself as someone rich. Because it is most likely that the wealth of your parents alone will make you very very well endowed when they die, if they have a financial advisor which knows only the basics of finance.

But well, that is kind of a mentality thing. I have saudi customers which would not consider themself rich while having X0 million dollars on their account and a dozen of servants for their spoiled brats.

Whew lad. For someone who says I'm supposedly arguing with feelings, you sure are doing a job of it! I'd like to think I'm as objective as possible. Obviously I'm human, and I'm not fully objective; I cannot claim to be. It's also fully possible that I'm entirely wrong about everything. I'm open to new ideas and avenues of looking at a problem if they are well and factually supported.

I'm not sure what facts you used in your post to support your point. I mostly see one long, emotional attack on who you think I supposedly am.

I grew up poor. I'm in my late 20s. I've worked very, very hard to get to the middle class spot I find myself in today. My parents were hardcore Christian conservatives. I know life isn't fair because I've watched people die, from sickness, from accidents, from combat.

However, many countries already do have single payer systems for their citizens, and they work. We have the capability to do it. I'd like to know why you seem so vehemently opposed.

Totally fine, we are not about talking about facs but opinions. And like I said: in your field of studies, it is completely unprofessional and rightaway stupid to bring political views into the lecture, be them right or left or striped.

But I just think that college students should be mature enough to either dont give a shit about the ramblings of an unprofessional professor or analyze this stuff themself and take a different point of view.

Beeing a student in college is one step away from beeing a professional. And if you internally rage about your customer/collegue/boss/subordinate beeing a right-wing prick or left-wing feminazi, you will not get happy in your later job, regardless what you do or what you did study.

And I'm fully against illegals being here or getting healthcare. I'd turn them away from the hospital if I had my way. I'd deport them and build a psychological wall on the border by simply ordering border patrols to shoot trespassers on sight. You'd think twice about crossing if you ran the risk of being killed, yes? It's not nice, but then again neither is breaking the basic laws of a country and then trying to say you should stay here and get benefits. It's fucking illegal.

Like I said if you are a citizen who works in your country, you should get healthcare. Should be pretty straightforward to keep illegals out of the single payer system.

> On top of the entirety of human history where healthcare was not viewed as a right but an altruistic act for your family and tribe.

Ah yes, the human history where the majority of people were literal slaves of some form to a lord who could have them killed upon a whim. Great times.

Insurance is a scam because it is operated for profit. It's the perfect example of the human condition; taking a great system that should work and corrupting it into a self-enriching piece of shit.

In a perfect world, everyone would pay into an emergency pool of money used to cover healthcare costs for those who need it. Then one say when you need it, you don't have to worry, tons of other contributions are covering you where you covered others before. But when the goal of the system is NOT to cover people, but to turn a profit for shareholders, that's when you get all these problems.

Repealing the mandate is all I care about.
If you want to make a government run health care service
>Which we have 3+ of, and have had them for the past 30 years
Then just raise taxes in general.
Do not fine me for being too poor to afford private health insurance. Either let me die in peace
>Which actually never happened, no one in the United States ever went without medical care
Or fucking have a general tax. Do not fine me.
What we really fucking need is spending accountability, because if we actually held the government officials personally responsible for reckless spending then we could lower waste enough to cover universal health care without increasing taxes a dime.

For the record, I am an American who spent 5 years of his childhood living in Europe, and believe me universal health care is awful.
If you want to take a look at what it would be like in the US take a look at the VA. The giant money pit that's forging documents and letting clients die on waiting lists.

Of course no one will agree with me. People don't WANT to change their minds, so they won't. They will rationalize, downplay, and dismiss any information that doesn't conform to what they already believe, and they will seek out information that reinforces and solidifies those beliefs. Why do you think network news has become a partisan, opinionated cesspool? It's not only because of interference form the parties, but because it's what people ACTUALLY WANT TO WATCH. People aren't interested in THE truth, they are interested in THEIR truth.

We are basically slaves to our beliefs, and the best part is, most will probably never realize it.

I'm autistic enough that I'll keep at it in the hopes that maybe I convince one person to open their mind to the possibility that they may be wrong, that they may not be an expert on everything like they think they are. That's why I do this.

Insurers right now are not charging you the cost of business. They are charging you whatever they want, because you have no choice but to pay it. And hospitals charge whatever THEY want, because you have to pay it.

I mean if you really believe in the market so strongly, you'd open up the US to foreign prescription drug trade to drive competition and lower prices, yes? so why does the distinction exist? you do realize that when you purchase something from a store, you are not just paying for the item and the cost of business, but also for the profits being made? what is your basis for saying that not-for-profit is the same as for-profit? sure there have been those who claimed to be not-for-profit when they werent, but i fail to see how that even applies to what we are discussing. how is your statement supposed to apply to what i said? in a for-profit company, the consumer pays extra so that the higher ups and shareholders can get paid. in a not-for-profit, prices are just high enough to cover operating expenses (workers, management, overhead, etc.) and there is minimal upper management and no shareholders.

It is not like I try to fuck you over, lie to or insult you, mate. It is just a suggestion from a fellow anon.

Because it is quite common for americans to live a bit over their income, especially when the income of the household is scratching the 100k, as you can cover the most important things with that and start to spend a bit more generous.
You know: a new car every couple of years instead of a used one, some additions to the house which are not really needed, an expensive gift for the 16th birthday of their daughter, holidays in a hotel for a week because it was on sale on the internet and the anniversary is around the corner... believe me pal, I know all of the "good reasons" that the "middle class" "needs" these things. You're rationalizing. I didn't say I have no standards. In my mind, there's a correct way to go about things, but I recognize that that way could be wrong, and I am open to solid, objective data that shows it to be wrong so I can change my thoughts accordingly.

If new data becomes available, I will shift lanes as necessary.

The reason nothing gets done is not because of people like me, but because of people like you, who choose a lane and then refuse to move out of it because they absolutely cannot be wrong. Then you get gridlock because neither side of the issue is willing to budge and you get issues that stick around for decades with the can still being kicked down the road.

Look at objective data, implement a solution, study the effects, modify the solution based on performance data. That's how you get things done.
