Generally, at least recently in fluffy art and stories, feral male fluffies just care about "good feels".

Domestics (male and female both) are usually better socialized and less prone to violence against their offspring, if only to avoid reprisal from their human "mommah/daddeh".

In the older stories, fluffies loved all their offspring equally.

The whole "best/worst/poopie baby" thing sprang up later on as a justification for abuse.

Some in-story explanations have it as being the result of human intervention in their "culture" in fluffy breeding mills (think of puppy mills) where the female fluffies were repeatedly told that certain colors (brown, dark green, any color that looked like "shit") were "bad" until they themselves believed it and it became passed along via memetics.

Historically, all fluffies love all babies equally. The baby hierarchy thing, along with literally every negative fluffy aspect aside of stupidity and bad bowel control were introduced later by people who liked to abuse fluffies but wanted to feel like they were the heroes instead of villains so they started doing everything they could to make it seem like the fluffies were evil and deserved to be abused.

Seeing how cruel and evil is literally the opposite of what fluffies are about, the hate-based fandom pretty much split off with its own headcanons that were completely incompatible with most fluffy stuff, and got dubbed "hellgremlins" by the original fluffy fandom.

The difference comes from what the fandoms are looking for in the fluffies. Fluffy fans want to see naive, friendly things getting hurt by the cruel real world, while the hellgremlin fans want to get angry at things they hate. You could say both sides have exceptions, but when it comes down to it the reason people like fluffies is that they love innocent victims while others like hellgremlins because they hate the unrepentantly evil beings.
