torrent DAW software and a bunch of plugins on a shitty laptop and you got more than what aphex twin had in the early 90s. Analog gear is no longer strictly superior. Buy a second hand USB-MIDI keyboard and get to it.

Thought about that, too, but I'd rather have a real device that's very very limited than a virtual device with 200+ filter effects.
I've tried the ikaossilator, everything's tucked away and embedded in menus and sub menus.
I'd rather have a one knob, one function sort of deal to learn on.

I work with a studio full of analogue gear and most of the soft synths out there. Your comment is rediculous. The difference is night and day. "A shitty laptop" will at best get you a few tracks laid, before it starts lagging.

Nice Mother-32 op also, we have two. Love the Prophet 12 we have though.

I wound up picking up not one but three expensive hobbies over the years. Photography (wildlife), bass guitar, and woodworking. Woodworking isn't too bad initially if you start with hand tools but once you get all serious business about it and start picking up the important power tools things get pricey. And also it's spilled over in to my requirements for housing; I NEED a garage or at least a backyard shed or something to run the tools and store the stuff.

Look at the Korg Minilogue too, it landed around £300, but demand and price have since risen. It sounds great, albeit not modular, but a great addon nonetheless. The Elektron stuff is great too, and for a bass that shakes rooms from the get go, the Sub Phatty. I've the keys, and find myself locking myself in the odd weekend and fucking around with everything.
Have different electronic artists in collaborating with people, pic related Tom Middleton.

I saw that one, it looks real nice, but I'd rather have a separate semi-modular synth with a cheap midi attached keyboard.
Mostly I just want something with nice Moog style knobs on it, and the Korg is $500 with pretty cheapo knobs.
It is really nice, though, aluminum with wood, too.

I used to play guitar, but I sold it. My hands are too arthritic and painful.
I can sing, spent years working a job where I drove 3-5 hours a day, and spent a lot of that doing car karaoke.
My confidence is shit though, and you need that to sing in front of anyone.

An instrument is a thing that makes noise.
A musician is a person that makes noise.
Whether it's "real" or not is not their responsibility at all. It's your responsibility to find what you like and ignore the rest.

Now, I want neither an instrument or to be a musician. I want a toy to play with. Fuck your "real" music up it's pretentious little puckered asshole.

Coming from someone who uses both software and hardware, I have found that hardware is a more pleasant experience. It's about the tactile feeling of physically turning the knobs, pressing real keys, plugging in the cables and creating patches. It's more than just producing, it's an experience.

That being said, I find that software is crucial for post-production, but I prefer the sounds from an actual hardware machine than a plug in. If you think that you can achieve the same sound with software, then you're just fuckin high.

Right around $400 for a beginner guitar, $400 for a decent little tube combo amp, and $200 for all the misc bullshit that goes with, extra strings, a strap, picks, tuner, cable, maybe a stand, gig bag...
Going less than $400 for a guitar's not such a good idea without buying it in person to get a good look at it, check the frets, bridge, action, neck...
Yamaha does make a nice practice amp for $300, though.
Or I could get a virtual amp app or program, that'd cut the price in half.
Obviously buying used lowers the price, but think of what kind of rig you'd have for $1000 if you bought it all used!

Second hand Mexi strat $250, some decent pickups and a pro setup another hundred, you can get a sweet solid state vox amp for a couple hundred and a multi fx for less.

>music fag here

For the longest time
Couldn't afford real solid gear, so went with VST, laptop shit like that.

>primarily drummer fag
Play at a church on the weekends, they have an electric drum kit and a acoustic one in two different areas, play them both every Sunday. I had a shitty personal drum kit until a couple days ago, traded in and up to a really nice kit.

>production fag also
Used soft synths for a really long time, no midi controller. Finally got one, had an awesome time playing an actual instrument to make sounds

>guitar fag also
Got my guitar and bass setup really nice too.

Moral of my post: spend money to get an instrument that will make you happy. Settling on less than a quality rig that you want to see, play, hear and experience every day will only disappoint and disillusion you. I'm a singer in a band as well, and though I'm not a bad singer and have good pitch and control, I still feel self conscious and will start lessons soon.

My point is to put time, effort and money if necessary into your hobby and it will make you happy when you start succeeding.

Happy hobbying /b/ros

A Hi-Point 9mm is unironically a pretty fun and easy gun to shoot. There's really nothing wrong with them, they're just cheap.

How do you guys feel about Korg Volcas? I don't own any hardware synths, but i want to branch out into that world. I thought these would be a good place to start. I'm not a super serious musician, just like to make beats.

Dude you can get a super decent squier mustang ( don't hate I toured the entire East coast with one) for like 350. A used fender amp for >300 and rock the skirts off hundos of hunnies in a band that plays everything from snoop to fucking Elton John.

right, so about $500. for a cheap, used guitar I'd have to buy sight unseen online somewhere. or, luck out and find what I'm looking for in the price I want at pawn shops (which is rare, I've looked casually on weekends for years.) way easier to save the $400 up and buy exactly what I want.
AND that's exactly around the price point I'm looking at for all these semi-modular synths I've been posting.
I'll still need a keyboard to connect to the synth, too. so, about $1000 to get a decent set up.

My AK is hungry for 39mm, pretty fucking cheap to shoot too which is great. I really want to get an M1A, but the .308 is a bit pricier than the 39

What would you guys say to a squire bass with jazz pickups being 75 bucks? Should I snag it? Its definitely better then the Johnson I got

I like my nerf Rival. Way easier to survive a nasty bout of depression with it.
I can still plink soda cans, and the ammo's reusable too.

I meant less than 300. I actually paid like 130 for a fender stage 112 and micced it through either our PA or the house system, sounded super dank

You could also get aa brand new heritage .22 revolver for $150 the LR ammo is like $5 for 50 bullets.

Reloading doesn't really save you any money unless you shoot a LOT. People reload if they shoot obscure/expensive ammo, or if theyre one of those autists that set their rifle up on a bench stand for muh accuracy and fire one round every ten minutes.

If you're just a regular person who likes to go shooting every once in a while, you're not gonna see much of a cost benefit from reloading.

Buy whatever guitar you want man, but coming from someone with seven of them, I could make a sweet partscaster for 300 bucks and it will have a better tone than most thousand bucks guitars. Make sure you get it setup properly, whatever you get. Even many brand new guitars need to be setup properly, the string tension, new wood settling, and shipping can really effect them.

I bought Volca keys as my first hardware. If you are relatively experienced with plug in VST synths i at least recomend that you buy a midi keyboard to go with it.
