Prelim exams are sort of tough, but doable if you just put the time in to study right. My hours are pretty great about 8-4 every day, management tends to work a bit longer. Getting your foot in the door was a stroke of luck for me and is a big barrier. It would be easier to just be a software developer of some kind and make comparable money, not take exams, and 1000x more job openings. Actuarial has it's own merits if you can get in though.

Old career:
- $50-ish bucks an hour (full wage package was higher) with paid flights to work camp lodges. Lots of overtime. Over $100,000 a year.

Now I do digital ads. Paid up front always before I do anything. Etransfer.
- $995 USD for ads + 10% commission.
- $1250 for social media project managing work with a focus on strategy rather than actual labour (though sometimes I have to pick up the slack)
- $2540 for building sales funnel websites

It's pretty amazing that most of the time I get paid what I ask for. Though not as glamorous as one would make it out to be as there's the selling process drags out at times. But when it pays off, damn do you feel good.

The course I took was $2500 but price is going up to $8000 and the course is closed as it's taught live.

Scott Oldford's stuff is pretty good. I want to enrol into that. I've been paying attention to him for a while.

He's posting that people are picking his stuff over Tai Lopez's social media course.

Scott posts a lot of proof of concept.

In terms of an actual business model, I don't know of any course that gives you that other than the one I took.

The guy actually gets on sales calls with me where people pay him $500 to get on a call, which is Frank Kern tier.

A lot of my business comes from collaboration and cross-referrals with people that would normally be my competition. But it's amazing what good incentives do.

In terms of doing business getting your first case study is where you're really going to separate yourself from all the pretenders out there, people charging lots of money who under perform and give digital marketers a bad name.

No matter what you do - whether it's construction hands-on or doing ads - it's all about whether you can deliver and a great case study with clear numbers will make it a no brainer.

And creating solid partnerships that can get the clients sent your way is a solid strategy too.

Rather than trying to eat the pie like all the other fishes, just become the pie itself.

Honestly, the industry is fucked. 100% about who you know. There's a small circle of guys that get the call for pop gigs. Some pop stars like Taylor Swift and Bruno Mars keep the same bassist for all their stuff (Amos Heller and Jamareo Artis respectively) but I haven't been able to lock down a constant gig like that. But you're pretty much right, you just make a name and meet a lot of people and the agents and tour managers will call you up.

did you not take the FE?
did you not have any involvement with clubs/organizations in school?
did you not get any certifications for various engineering tools?
did you not have ANY work experience beforehand?

All these things can equate to internship and even moreso. Maybe you wont get the job you want, but fuck you'd get something at least related to your degree. You must suck at this

Why American schools and not Canadian?

Unless you are pretty competative it might be more difficult to get into American schools since you do not have an attachment to the country (assuming you don't). In that case it might be worthwhile to apply to a decent number of schools, some safety schools, and DO schools as well.

And advice on what to expect as in, what med school is like?

I was joking about the Smash Mouth thing.

And yeah, I hold a lot of resentment towards the industry. I practiced my ass off for a long time and I didn't land a significant gig until I started working out. Pop music is simple and easy to play. I can improvise over Coltrane changes but I get hired because I look good.

I can't really complain though, music is all I want to do and playing on tours with pop artists is a damn good way to fund my own creative projects on the side.

Caribbean schools are mostly a scam. They admit like 900 students per class. Well over 50% tend to drop out. Very few match into a residency in the US and those are almost always family medicine in some terrible location. Just my 2 cents.

I have just started paying my loans. I have $275,000 in loans. I can just barley make interest payments on a resident salary but, It shouldn't be too bad after residency when I should make about $300,000/yr.

The daily life as a resident depends a lot on the service you are on. I am an emergency medicine resident and during months in the ED I work 16 days/month for 8-10 hour shifts. Pretty nice. On months that I am in the ICU, I go in at 5 am and work 12-13 hour shifts with 4 days off during those months. Lost of time just typing things into computers.

http://www.kevinmd.com/blog/2017/03/truth-caribbean-medical-schools.html

This article explains the process well. I can't really comment on the individual schools though, I have never met a resident from one of these schools in person.

I will be working in Emergency medicine so, in emergency rooms.

Med school the first 2 years is just undergrad on steroids. What you learned in half a semester in one class would be on one exam in med school. A lot of lost time with friends and it can get boring. I didn;t study as long as most people for step 1 but, most people answer a shit ton of questions from a step one preparation question bank online (UWorld). The third and forth years are a lot more fun because you are in the hospital but, some rotations have significant time contributions and you have to be in the hospital a lot for some of them.

To me the 4 years of school flew by and, while there is a good bit of work, it is very managable if you generally pick things up quickly. If not it can be quite time consumming.

I will say, the whole process requires many sacrifices. There is also a very high rate of burn out, depression, divorce, and suicide among med students and doctors. So, seriously consider if there is anything else you would want to do. Chasing money and prestige will make for a rough next 50 years of your life.
