One of the main problems in life is to choose between equally horrible scenarios. Being single is nice when you are in your 20s, and your peers and friends are mostly single too. At the very least, if they aren't single, they have a life outside the relationship.

Then the 30s, and everything changes. Your friends will get married and have children. If you are single, you are now more likely to become a bachelor. Being a bachelor can be nice, if you are an investment banker in NYC, but for most, it will suck hard.

You will end up alone with your rum and coke (probably no ice), your Nirvana t-shirt and spend all the time at hand convincing yourself that you are somehow "free" because you are single. However, you will ultimately discover that if your freedom isn't repressed by a woman, it is by something else in life and society.

Not sure about the 40s, since I'm not there yet, but this is where most bachelors crystallise -- the point of no return. They will develop strange habits, and the few friends they have left are either other bachelors, or some rare friend who will have time for you in between his family obligations.

I never said anything about 20 year olds so i am enjoying what is happening here.

It has ups and downs. Downs is that they will suck your time up. Doesn't happen in the beginning dating phase but once you hit the GF mile marker, its a given. If you like being with her a lot then that's a good thing. Not always but if you go long term, most of the time they'll think ring at a certain point.
