I think it has to do with most people finding a safe space in university and then not finding a job after graduating so they just go deeper and deeper into post grad studies. I recently graduated from UC Berkeley. I can tell you there is no room for conservatism there. I am a libertarian so it didn't hurt too much, but I sure as fuck did not tell anyone my views and hid them as much as possible while listening to entire classrooms mock my ideas every fucking day and demonize anyone they assume is wrong.

Any time I even attempted a slightly conservative argument in my work my grade was obliterated. Professors and GSIs would often say they "love" to read papers from people who disagree with them. But that love doesn't extend to a good grade. Fuck I took a gender study course not knowing "gender' was code for "feminism" and simply because I was a man every grade I received was a C. Literally nothing I did got any other grade, it was the same for the other males. All the females got As no matter what.

IQ "tests" measure how kids respond to standarized questions and compare each one to the mean behavior and assign a quotient to that result.
